On today's show, Victor discusses three reasons why a recession would be different this year:
• The labor market is robust. In most recessions, economic output and employment both go down. But unemployment is still at a record low, which means corporate financial health is strong.
• Companies are cash-rich. US corporations are sustaining profits and sitting on a large cash hoard going into this recession, which helps them retain staff during a difficult time.
• The Federal Reserve has been aggressively raising rates to curb inflation. In most recessions, interest rates are cut, but that’s not been the Fed’s approach in 2022.
