Thy Kingdom Come - Gray Areas
Written on the hearts of men Romans 2:15
How do you decide things?
When you live for God and the Kingdom of Light, Kingdom values should affect how you discern and decide.
And culture and the ways of the kingdom of darkness creep in and make things gray
What if you could know that you were discerning and deciding in alignment with the Kingdom of Light?
4 gospels: Matt 21:1-11 (can open to this one), Mark 11:1-10, Luke 19:28-44, John 12:12-15
Jesus & disciples were approaching Jerusalem (where all the sacrifices took place, the religious and social capital) John 12:12
First Jesus gives instructions
Matthew 21:1-3 NIV As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
Matthew 21:4 NIV This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
“Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
Jesus has a plan beyond what you know or can understand
Matthew 21:6-8 NIV The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
King Jehu
2 Kings 9:13 They quickly took their cloaks and spread them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet and shouted, “Jehu is king!”
Matthew 21:9 NIV The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
Discernment is knowing what is Right vs Almost Right
8 Value-based questions you can ask:
What does God’s Word say? Does it warn against or encourage it?
Psalm 119:105 KJV Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path
The Word of God is everlasting, applicable, and alive. Following it requires obedience and trust in God’s plan.
What is my heart's motive?
Psalm 139:23-24 NIV "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
“We must not think of the clothes on our backs too dear to part with for the service of Christ” - Matthew Henry commentary
We need to hold our “coats” out and make sure that not only the logic aligns but that our affections are in line.
Where might I see the consequence of this in my life?
1 Corinthians 6:12 TLB I can do anything I want to if Christ has not said no, but some of these things aren’t good for me. Even if I am allowed to do them, I’ll refuse to if I think they might get such a grip on me that I can’t easily stop when I want to.
Choose what makes you happy holy.
Is this what Jesus would do?
1 John 1:6 Anyone who says he is a Christian should live as Christ did.
Does it bring glory to God?
1 Cor 10:31 NIV So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Africa Dominican Republic Alaska Japan
Haiku Poem
Domain of shadows
Spirit, my fog navigator
Priceless Kingdom light
Matthew 5:16 NIV In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Will it set the right example for others that might be watching?
Romans 14:13 “Try to live in such a way that you will never make your brother stumble by letting him see you do something he thinks is wrong”
Daniel 12:3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.
God created us for community - be a light magnifier not a shadow maker.
Have I discussed with others that are kingdom-minded?
John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever

Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Matthew 6:33 CSB
We’re called to live right side up in an upside down world.
You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven. For he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Matthew 5:43-45 NLT
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7 CSB
God’s Kingdom may look upside down, but it’s actually the right and restored way life is meant to live.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. Matthew 5:3 CSB
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4 CSB
O
wnership of actions that leads to repentance, releases God’s restoration.
Failure that looks like an end to the world, is a doorway for deliverance and breakthrough to God!
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5 ESV
Rather than pursuing selfish ambition, the meek aggressively pursue God’s heart and mission.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6 CSB
Righteousness is a gift we cannot earn and yet it’s pursuit opens the heart to grace and goodness of God.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matthew 5:8 CSB
God cares about your heart not your public image or persona!
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9 CSB
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. Matt. 5:10 CSB
Jesus began to point out to his disciples that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, “Oh no, Lord! This will never happen to you! ” Jesus turned and told Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns but human concerns.” Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will find it. Matthew 16:21-25 NLT
When we fix our eyes on Jesus, His Kingdom, with all it’s virtues, attributes and attitudes, comes clearly into focus.
Be The Kingdom - Poem
The dark-side of the downside
It doesn’t come with an upside
Such is the current Kingdom of this world.
The me-centered mindset
With expectations never met
Certainly not the promised priceless pearl.
But the Kingdom of Heaven
With the power of Leaven
Changes both how we think and act.
With an attitude of gratitude
And the gift of grace to follow through
The heart will heal and change, that’s a fact.
Blessed are those who see their need
Who mourn rebellion and now live freed
Who are merciful to self and others along the way.
Who hunger and thirst for God’s will
The one’s He with His goodness fills
The pure in heart who see Him day by day.
Who have made peace with God and man
Who, for righteousness sake, make their stand
Blessed by the one whose love will never fade.

The King and His Kingdom are a treasure that is simply worth more than everything!
How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade. Mark 4:30-32 NLT
God’s Kingdom is a miraculous force that works in you and is meant to exponentially multiply through you.
Anyone who has accepted Jesus as Sovereign King and Savior, has a part to play in building His Kingdom.
And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. Ezekiel 22:30 ESV
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” Isaiah 6:8 ESV
Don’t give up your birthright for a bowl of porridge.
Invest everything you are and have with God and watch Him unfold a life of meaning and purpose beyond measure.
The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come. Mark 4:26-29 NLT

Matt. 13:44NLT
44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.
Takeaway: The wise aren’t just willing to sell everything for the treasures of God, but eager, honored, and Joyful to do so.
Takeaway: Your Everything is Anything that will keep you from possessing the treasure!
Mtt. 16:25 NIV25 For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.
Mtt. 6:19-21NIV19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Takeaway: The everything He’s after is the everything your heart loves more than Him!
Takeaway: There is safety and security when our hearts are surrendered to the King!
Matt. 13:45NKJV
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Takeaway:Jesus is great a extracting treasure from our trouble and beauty from our pain.
Takeaway: We can joyfully give up everything for Him because He first gave up everything for us!
Eph. 5:11NIV Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them
***These next ones are for Communion: Not sure if you put them on screen or they are for my reference only.
1 Cor. 11:23-25NIV 23 The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Our Father in heaven, honored be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10 CSB!
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son. Colossians 1:13 ESV
Fear the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone. But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:14-15 NLT
A decision to live in the Kingdom of God is a decision to reject the kingdom of this world.
Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world, wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important, has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out, but whoever does what God says is set for eternity. 1 John 2:15-17 MSG
Darkness, more than immoral behavior, is living under the influence of the wrong king, culture, and kingdom.
Jesus used this illustration: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like the leaven a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.” Matthew 13:33 NLT
`
Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees. Luke 12:3 ESV
As it relates to which kingdom we’re living in and are influenced by, small choices make a huge impact.
Rebellion always starts with seemingly insignificant compromise!
You were running well. Who prevented you from being persuaded regarding the truth? This persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole batch of dough. Galatians 5:7-9 CSB
Compromise has a compounding negative impact on our spiritual well-being and destiny
God’s remedy for rebellion is repentance which then leads to redemption and restoration!
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. - All glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:16-17 & 20 NLT
Our amazing Messiah came to multiply every obedient choice we make for our good and His glory.
Surrender your life, including your time, talent and treasure wholeheartedly to the God one choice at a time.
The Kingdom of Heaven is like the leaven a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.” Matthew 13:33 NLT
The impact of living in God’s Kingdom will permeate everything about who we are and how we live.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10 ESV
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son. Colossians 1:13 ESV
A decision to live in the Kingdom of God is a decision to reject the kingdom of this world.
I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. John 17:15-18 CSB
Serve the LORD alone. But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:11-15 NLT
The only path to real freedom, promise and purpose is in choosing wholeheartedly the Kingdom of God!
You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us” James 4:4-5 NLT
You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil, the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved! Ephesians 2:2-5 NLT
You can’t worship idols and Abba at the same time, and you can’t choose to live in two opposing Kingdoms.
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ESV
Jacob’s Screens
Darkness isn’t merely immoral behavior, It is living under the influence of the wrong culture and kingdom.
Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is! “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. Matthews 6:22-24 NLT
The worst darkness is the darkness we think is right, light!
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Matthew 6:33 CSB
Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. 1 John 2:6 CSB
So Joshua addressed the people: “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen GOD for yourselves to worship him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.” Joshua said, “Now get rid of all the foreign gods you have with you. Say an unqualified Yes to GOD, the God of Israel.” Joshua 24:22-24 MSG

After this manner therefore pray: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13 KJV
We are not created to be subjects to the kingdom of this world but to the Kingdom of our God.
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17 ESV
God’s word is literally a revelation of His Kingdom priorities and yet those priorities are rarely ever ours.
God’s Kingdom is His sovereign rule and reign in heaven and on earth, presently accomplishing His will in and through the hearts and lives of those who faithfully follow Him.
He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. Colossians 1:13 CSB
He is a compassionate King.
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him. Matthew 2:1-2 ESV
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11 ESV
Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world. John 18:37 NKJV
Jesus came for a Revolution of Redemption and Restoration!
He is the Conquering King!
Pilate wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” John 19:19 ESV
Death, the previously undefeated foe, was no match for our conquering savior and King.
\
They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.” Revelation 17:14 ESV
The more pertinent question is, who was on that cross? - John Lennox
Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen. Matthew 28:1-6 ESV
3) He is the Sovereign King
Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty. Psalm 24:8 ESV
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 NLT
Much of the chaos is in our lives stems from the fact that we don’t rightly respond to Christ’s sovereign rule as King.
For God is the King over all the earth. He reigns above the nations, sitting on his holy throne.. Psalm 47:7–8 NLT
We must see Jesus as both our merciful Savior and our sovereign Lord.

If we are content to have Jesus at the edges of our lives, we are in danger of missing having Him there at all.
Psalm 103:2 NIV Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.
One key to keeping Jesus at the center is remembering that every truly good thing in my life has been because of Him.
Psalm 119:89-96 NIV
Your word, Lord, is eternal;
it stands firm in the heavens.
Your faithfulness continues through all generations;
you established the earth, and it endures.
Your laws endure to this day,
for all things serve you.
If your law had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget your precepts,
for by them you have preserved my life.
Save me, for I am yours;
I have sought out your precepts.
The wicked are waiting to destroy me,
but I will ponder your statutes.
To all perfection I see a limit,
but your commands are boundless.
John 6:67 TPT So Jesus said to his twelve, “And you—do you also want to leave?”
John 6:68 TPT Peter spoke up and said, “But Lord, where would we go? No one but you gives us the revelation of eternal life.
Hebrews 4:12 NIV For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
God’s Word and His commands are perfect, powerful, and life-preserving.
Matthew 22:37 NIV Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
Isaiah26:3 ESV
You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
Jesus died to have relationship with you. He isn’t holding back from you now!
These need to come up one at a time as I am talking about them, until all 3 are up there:
Worship
The Word
Listening
Centered on Christ
Wouldn’t it be nice
To not have to live here and there?
But how can we live
In the peace that he gives
And the love that he asks us to share?
I’ll focus on him
That’s the way to win
The battle that goes on in my mind
I’ll remember his deeds
How he’s filled all my needs
Instead of continuing to whine
God’s word is so true
He has great plans for you
And for me and for those that we love
So let’s look to Jesus
Who’s sworn never to leave us
And live our lives with our eyes fixed above
Jesus wants to be at the center of your life because he knows that’s where he can change everything!

Peace (English) is defined as: freedom from conflict, disturbance, or trouble.
Shalom (שָׁלוֹם) - Eirēnē (εἰρήνη) - - A state of wholeness, quiet joy and rest. The deep breath of the soul.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1 ESV
Peace - The comfort found in my confidence in my Father and the love He has for me.
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 ESV
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27 ESV
Without God’s peace (Shalom), we are restless, anxious, drama driven, and defeated.
God’s Peace is found in His Presence -
In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8 ESV
When I am where you are, I have peace, and no where else.
Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. Psalm 139:7-12 ESV
Gideon built an altar to the lord and named it Yahweh-Shalom (which means “the LORD is peace”) Judges 6:24 NLT
Yahweh-Shalom!
When my heart is His presence, His peace is my heart.
2) God’s Peace is Personal
The Lord is my Shepherd. Psalm 23:1 ESV
He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. Psalms 23:1-3 ESV
Soul rest and restoration are found in an intentional everyday relationship with Jesus.
The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied. Proverbs 13:4 ESV
If your life with God is reduced to a formula without relationship, you’ll still struggle to find peace.
May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 ESV
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Psalm 23:4 ESV
3) God’s Peace is Powerful
In a world of shifting sand and uncertainty! - You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV
Maybe the most impressive thing about God’s peace, is that He produces it in the most improbable places.
Though the mountains move and the hills shake, my love will not be removed from you and my covenant of peace will not be shaken,” says your compassionate LORD. Isaiah 54:10 CSB
