Spring is officially here, and while the warmer weather and longer days have us all itching to get outside and run, this time of year is actually the most popular season for running injuries, with March seeing more than twice as many doctor visits compared to other months. In this episode, we break down why the spring transition is so risky and how to make it through to race season healthy and strong.
We cover the two biggest traps runners fall into: trying to make up for a low-mileage winter by ramping up too fast, and assuming that treadmill miles translate directly to road miles. Jacob shares his go-to recommendation for easing back outside with a 50/50 treadmill-to-road split before going full outdoor. We also talk about why dropping strength training once the weather gets nice is one of the most common mistakes we see, and how just one to two days a week in the weight room can keep you durable all season long.
Kailee brings in some Traditional Chinese Medicine wisdom too. In TCM, spring is liver season, and the liver governs your tendons, which helps explain why Achilles issues, plantar fasciitis, and other connective tissue injuries spike this time of year. She also shares some simple food and lifestyle tips to support your body through the seasonal shift.
We wrap up with some exciting announcements, including a group run on April 4th with giveaways for Grandma's Marathon entries for both 2026 and 2027!
