Louisville children’s theater company StageOne releases three new virtual plays Friday all aimed at helping elementary students sort through emotions and social interactions.

The downtown Breonna Taylor memorial has a new home. It’s being rebuilt at Louisville’s Roots 101 African American History Museum… after community members carried pieces of it from Jefferson Square Park yesterday Saturday.

After Tuesday night, Republicans now control at least one hundred of Kentucky’s 138 statehouse seats, further solidifying their supermajority. That could spell trouble for Democratic Governor Andy Beshear and his pandemic response, which has been criticized by Republicans as over-reaching.

This morning, we revealed how the Louisville Metro Police Department treats families of those shot and killed by its officers in the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting’s collaboration with Newsy.

Most families said they were kept in the dark and not told important information about their loved ones death. Like, Tammy Riggs.

Her son, Billy Ray Riggs, was shot by an LMPD officer during a narcotic traffic stop in February 2018 after police and another passenger exchanged gunfire.

Tammy has been waiting for LMPD to close its investigation into her son’s death ever since. She had no idea the case has been closed since August 2018.

The police killing of Breonna Taylor has shined a spotlight on how Louisville Metro Police investigates itself. Taylor’s family, and the nation, have demanded transparency and, in some ways, gotten it — a meeting with the attorney general, public updates on the status of the case, and the release of the agency’s internal investigation.

But that’s not the norm. Newsy and the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting spoke to families of those killed by LMPD since 2015. They say they’ve been demanding the same treatment — and have gotten nothing but silence.

Kentucky’s unemployment system is under immense pressure during the pandemic: By May, Kentucky had the largest share of its workforce on unemployment benefits in the country, and the state’s unemployment insurance trust fund required an $865 million loan from the federal government to stay afloat over the summer.

Several unemployment insurance lawyers told KyCIR they are hearing from more people who were denied eligibility than ever before, and many of them self-quarantined. The unemployment office approved their claim and started issuing payments, only to reassess after the fact and find those workers ineligible.

Theater and dance artists are turning to parking lots as a safer option for live performances, where audiences literally drive in to see the shows. From a circus arts drive-in show in Sarasota to a horror-comedy drive-in experience in the Denver area, it’s becoming an increasingly popular way to experience live art while it’s still unsafe to gather in large groups.
