About the author (updated on 30 March-2025) PREM PARKASH(Nawãn Shaher near Kharar, Dist Ambala; 1932 - Jalandhar 30 March 2025)Indian Sahitya Akademi award-winner (1992) Prem Parkash was one of the major short story writers in post-1947 East Punjabi literature.He did MA in Urdu and diploma in journalism from Panjab University Chandigarh in 1966 and worked as a sub-editor in Urdu newspapers Milap and Hind Samachar published from Jalandhar where lived since 1954. He published Lakeer a literary magazine for many years.Apart from memoirs, he published several collections and a short novel Dastavez written on Naxalite maoist movement in East Punjab from the Freudian perspective.His selected stories in English translation were published in the book Deadline and other Stories (2005).
