Tune into episode #9 as Thomas Godding and I share a few fun high school memories before eventually moving into deeper discussions on the Education System, Hollywood and the movie industry, Syrian Refugees, The Oregon Militia, Humans of New York, and a many other interesting political topics.
8:05 – “The American Education System… “
You can also find other free online resources for education at www.NoExcuseList.com
This article is a very interesting read:
13:32 – [Smooth segway]
14:06 – “So that you [schools] can get more funding…”
20:21 – “De-Personalization and De-Realization”
Here’s a screenshot I took of a Youtube commenter describing de-realization that’s pretty spot-on.
In short, you essentially feel very detached from your entire reality. Everything around you seems like fake two-dimensional Hollywood props. You don’t see an entire room, you see and feel everything separate from one another. It feels almost like your whole life was taken from under you and your world was replaced with a simulator, like the Matrix.
To learn more about this, just go to YouTube and search both of those phrases. Lots of people who are currently experiencing it, or have previously experienced it, discuss what it’s like and how long it took for it to go away.
31:05 – “Well on the other end of the spectrum…”
Also, check this out:
31:11 – “[Einstein didn’t do well in school]”
31:22 – “Divinci had severe dyslexia”
37:02 – “On the Federal level, same standards, but I think on the State level, there’s different standards…”
Read more about State and Federal education standards here:
37:17 – “Resources don’t make that much of a difference”
Looking back at this, I disagree with my statement. Resources make a huge difference.
40:05 – “There was an actor or actress that was coming out and saying that success is solely defined by social media followers these days”
46:45 – “At Disney Land.. some people use their roles to feel self-important”
https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1qe3e7/employees_of_disney_what_is_the_craziest_thing/
49:50 – “I’ve been replacing meaningless shows with TED talk videos..”
50:26 – “I’ve been watching Flash”
58:53 – Some of you may have difficulty distinguishing what Thomas said here.
58:53 – If you wait long enough, you’ll realize that everyone has something of value to offer.
59:49 – “I love Open Source!”
1:01:38 – “There’s actually been studies that show.. the more educated you are, the more likely you are to vote democrat.”
Here are the two links Thomas gave me:
1:03:39 – “What would you do for other people if money wasn’t an issue?”
1:03:47 – “There have been other studies that show that after a certain monetary amount is accumulated.. the need for money turns into a mental condition.”
1:07:04- “…And you’ve got countries like North Korea and China printing out fake American bills just to devalue it, and putting it into circulation”
1:07:31 – “…there’s the Sony nonsense with The Interview?”
1:09:56 – “But they believe in a talking snake that gave apples to two people…”
1:10:19 – “South Korea was taking DVD’s, and books, and pamphlets.. and dropping them in North Korea with parachutes?”
1:10:46 – “On the demilitarized zone, there’s a fake city that [North Korea] has built”
1:12:55 – “Jim-Crow Esque Ideals..”
Usually “Jim Crow” refers to the loopholes that white supremacists used to prevent black people from voting, by requiring that they pass certain tests that the commonly uneducated black people couldn’t pass.
1:14:55 – “I’m going to Google what percent of refugees even get through the screening process”
Here’s an info-graphic showing the rigorous screening process Syrian refugees must go through:
1:16:52 – “Everyone knows we install puppet dictators in other countries. We even get caught and people brush it off as typical US behavior.”
1:17:39 – “It’s just the Native Americans, just the black, the Chinese immigrants..”
1:17:45 – US Military expenditure compared to other top countries.
1:19:28 – “10,000 refugees? ..out of? “
1:19:52 – “According to senior administration officials, more than half of the Syrian refugees admitted into the U.S. so far are children.”
1:20:51 – Humans of New York Facebook Page
1:21:04 – “Aya’s story”
1:21:21 – Majority of drone strikes are on innocent civilians

1:25:57 – “[Before and After pictures of Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq]”
1:26:16 – “We show a few pictures of a few [Muslims] who don’t look like us and hyper-focus on that image”
1:26:25 – “We have 8 minutes until you need to leave”
1:27:10 – “Xenophobes [Definition]”
1:27:21 – [We start talking about the Oregon militia incident here]
1:27:37 – [The Bundy ranch story]
Read more about the Bundy Standoff here:
1:29:03 – “What happened in Waco..”
1:29:44 – “That killed about.. six.. four agents? I think it was..”
1:30:06 – “The FBI at the Waco scene was also the one in charge during Ruby Ridge.. “
1:30:48 – “I think only about 10 or 12 people escaped”
1:30:50 – “..And then another 20-25 committed suicide or mercy killings.”
1:31:35 – Oregon Militia Story
1:35:52 – “And thanks to the Patriot Act, they can detain you for any reason, for X amount of time.”
1:36:04 – “That was the Patriot Act, wasn’t it? “
1:36:07 – “We didn’t repeal that? [The Patriot Act]”
1:36:19 – “I think people stopped it, but then they just put out another one the next-day with another name?”
1:37:03 – “Like recently actually, they slipped into a 2,000 page bill.. that the U.S. no longer has to print the country of origin on meat.”
1:37:17 – “..was that part of the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership)?”
1:38:54 – “And China is terrible with all its smog.”

“There are individuals out there with a lot on their plate. These struggles are not always visible to the people around them. This episodes challenge is to be conscious of this reality for the next week.
I want you to go into each conversation with the understanding that the people around you might be dealing with something really difficult beneath the surface, like the death of a relative, or thoughts of suicide.
My hope is that having this on your mind will modify your interactions and encourage you to be kinder, to offer more support, and to greet more people with a friendlier smile.”
