For being such a big clown fan, Ben isn't entirely sold on this one. Don't get us wrong—the acting and production value are phenomenal, and at its heart, it’s an endearing story about losing innocence, facing trauma, and the power of chosen family. But we have to talk about Stephen King being an absolute freak when it comes to writing female characters... even when they're 11 years old.

Tag along as we break down each Loser's individual fears and abusive home lives, that infamous book scene that should have never seen the light of day, and how on earth Henry Bowers walked away without a severe brain injury.

This week, we are diving into Richard Donner’s iconic, satanic-panic, religiously charged classic: The Omen (1976)!

While the movie itself can feel a bit surface-level at times, the underlying political and social commentary cuts deep. We’re breaking down why the Anti-Christ being birthed specifically out of American political power makes total sense; from the very first scene where Robert Thorne lies to his wife, to the birthday party photo-ops where Katherine only holds Damien when the cameras are rolling.

We also take a hard look at how the 1970s societal norms leak into the background of this film: everyone gaslighting Katherine to high hell, treating her postpartum depression as a selfish excuse, HIPAA rights being nowhere in sight, and the film's conflicting depiction of women (are women expected to sacrifice themselves for men, or are they just inherently fickle to the Devil?).

No (grave) stone will be left unturned!

While the film gets a half-point for inadvertently stumbling into an anti-capitalist critique about wealthy elites commodifying human bodies, any actual meaning is rendered completely null and void. We are breaking down the absolute hypocrisy of two Hollywood millionaires profiting off a movie about human exploitation, and taking a scalpel to the loud, relentless misogyny baked into every frame. From the obnoxious male gaze of the first act to the stark double standard in how female versus male bodies are tortured (including Kana’s tragic ending), we dissect why this "torture porn" artifact fails under any serious analytical lens. It’s bad, it’s hypocritical, and we aren't holding back.

While this cult-classic film is incredibly on the nose with its Greek mythology references, from naming the ship Aeolus after the father of Sisyphus to the cast literally spoon-feeding us the legend, it stands as a brilliant, heartbreaking representation of trauma. We break down the inescapable cycle of trying to redo your past mistakes, only for everything to end in the exact same tragic way. Jess’s endless loop is a clear depiction of what happens when people refuse to accept their grief and circumstances, trapping themselves in a prison of subconscious self-punishment where they recreate their own trauma over and over again.
