When Jeremiah pronounced God's judgment was coming to Israel, they protested and said, "For what? We don't worship idols like other generations did." God's response was stunning. "You have done worse than your fathers." What could possibly be worse than idol worship? What could Israel have done that made the horrific sins of Manasseh pail by comparison? And what if many of us are doing the same thing? This week, we will come to understand that there is a step beyond paganism— even further into the darkness of ignorance and sin. And although our modern society scoffs at those who worship gods made of wood and stone, the truth is, we are guilty of something far worse.
