The last episode of the Magic Rock trilogy, this one is dedicated to the Bearded Lady.
Drinking list for the episode:
Bearded Lady Bourbon Barrel Dessert Edition Imperial Stout - 10.5%,
In the second episode exploring the beers of Magic Rock, the super juicy DDH NEIPA Ripe Times gets the 90% treatment. A fruity little collab with Salt Beer Factory.
As a bonus chat and to help prep for those back to the pub pints, how do you know if your beer is f***ed?
Drinking list for the episode:
Ripe Times - 6.5%, DDH NEIPA
*We were sent these beers with no obligation to review them positively or even review them at all.
Magic Rock asked us to review some of their beers, naturally we said yes.
In the first of 3 episodes exploring the Huddersfield based brewer's offerings, we give their session IPA 'Saucery' and Gooseberry Gose 'Salty Kiss' the once over.
With outdoor drinking in pubs back in full swing we discuss the differences between a pub and tap room. Is one better than the other? Are they the same thing?
Drinking list for the episode:
Saucery - 3.9%, Session IPA
Salty Kiss - 4.1%, Gooseberry Gose
*We were sent these beers with no obligation to review them positively or even review them at all.
In the latest episode Glenn and Lyall taste their way through a Beer52 subscription box and discuss if buying beer in this way is really worth it? Mike remains off the juice and is trying some craft no/lo offerings from Big Drop and their latest World collab series. Glenn tries to channel Christmas so he can truly enjoy his bonus beer and airs his issues with session IPA's. Have Tiny Rebel produced the worst beer reviewed by us so far?
We finally put the keg vs cask debate to bed. Which is better?
Our second brewer in focus episode, this week we give 4 beers from the Thornbridge stable the treatment. The new 90% rating system is unveiled and Glenn attempts to say lager yeast.
Beers covered in this episode:
- Mikan Shimoda Pale, Satsuma Pale Ale 3.8%
- Frisco, California Common Beer 5.0%
- Hordaland, Kviek IPA 6.0%
- Otto, Weizen Doppelbock 8.0%
Every now and again we are going to do an episode completely off script, zero prep and just see what dark path we wander down. This is the first of those episodes.
What started off with a chat about the current state of pubs mutated into some light dry January bashing, a discussion around the Scandinavian penchant for for sour beers amongst other mad brews, Lyall channels Bill Bailey and could you really have a breakfast stout for breakfast?
*This was recorded in January, any COVID related chat is long out of date.
This week Glenn and Lyall pass on some nuggets of home brewing wisdom, Mike is trying some 0% alcohol and do spruce tips taste good in beer?
For our festive/New Year episode we decide to design our perfect pub.
We miss the pub! To celebrate the holidays we decide to build our dream drinking establishment. The perfect location, the beers, food menu and the all important bar snacks all get the treatment. SPOILER...pigs in blankets are not a bar snack.
This episode is accompanied by drinks from our past, some surprising choices mixed in with a few left-field additions.
From all of us at 90% Water, merry Christmas and happy New Year
Beer lovers have never had it so good, but is there a risk the industry could be on the decline for good? Lyall, Glenn and Mike look into PubCos and their control of large chunks of the pub market. Are they good or bad for the future of social drinking?
Our enjoyment of BREWDOG has dipped over the years, we delve into the BREWDOG back catalogue in an attempt to rekindle our love for the UKs #1 craft brewer and we discuss the high stakes pigeon racing scene in Belgium.
