Eight One Sixty

'90s Week on 90.9

Listen Later

On this week's episode of the Eight One Sixty, we celebrate KC music from the '90s. This show was a lot of fun to put together — digging through hard drives, looking up old articles and blog posts, and scouring through YouTube and Discogs. Things are weird right now, but maybe we can give you a brief moment of escape, to sit back and enjoy some KC music from a couple decades ago.

We'll hear from these bands:

  • The Appleseed Cast — still active and making beautiful noises
  • Frogpond — lead singer Heidi Phillips is still making music
  • Mates of State — they now call Connecticut home
  • The Get Up Kids — still active and put out a great album, "Problems," last year
  • The Gadjits — featuring the Phillips brothers from The ArchitectsBrandon Phillips and The Condition and Other Americans
  • Mongol Beach Party — featuring musicians now active in bands like Victor & Penny, The Band That Fell To Earth KCMiss Boating and more
  • Shiner — still active and just released an amazing new album, "Schadenfreude"
  • Season to Risk — check out Bryan Truta's new interview with Steve Tulipana of S2R at this link
  • Dirtnap — featuring the musical wonderings of Billy Smith, Wade Williamson and Pete LaPorte, who went on to form Olympic Size
  • Pamper the Madman — they had a reunion show late last year and maybe they will again someday
  • Sin City Disciples — Patrick Sprehe of Center Cut Records suggested this one, and it comes with a special intro from the great and late John Peel of BBC Radio 1
