In memory of all of those who died on September 11th, 2001, this episode describes the opportunity I had as a young police officer to fly out to New York in December 2001 to Volunteer with The Salvation Army. What should have been a day of feeding rescue workers followed by a trip back California took a turn when NYPD needed a police chaplain. My co-worker and I accompanied our police chaplain down in to the recovery area of one of the collapsed towers and witnessed NYPD officers dig one of their fallen comrades out of the destruction, by hand.
Recounting this story brought back emotions I feel every single year on 9/11. I hope you enjoy the episode.
