I am a subject matter expert on creating excuses, lies and bullshit.
I make excuses why things won't work out.
I find reasons I won't be successful.
I sabotage opportunities due to fear of failure.
I wasn't always this way - and I am committed to change. In this episode, I share my experiences and methods of calling myself out on bullshit and lies I like to tell myself. Hopefully, you'll get something out of it which will help you do the same.

As I was preparing to record this episode, I saw a friend's Instagram post - a young deputy and former Army Ranger took his own life.
It is a tragedy - and sadly, a preventable one.
Our first responders, military personal and those who have suffered or been exposed to the extreme trauma risk succumbing to the lies our internal demons convince us of.
You are worthless...
You are a failure...
The world would be better off without you...
When the demons have their way - the lies they tell have deadly consequences.
In this episode, I reflect on the death of this deputy - and how I face the same fate eye to eye...

I don't know about you, but sometimes saying the phrase, "I was wrong" is so much harder than to say "I am sorry." In this episode, I give my quick thoughts on my personal struggles with ego and admitting when I am wrong.

With all of the amazing blessings we have in life, it is easy to get caught up in our "problems." This morning, my mind gave me a hard reality check as I bitched about having to go back to work when it reminded me there are literally MILLIONS of people in this world who would take my life, my "problems", my worries, my hardships right now - AS IS.
Instead of dwelling on all the things "we have to do" this week - together, let's change our perspective:
Try this instead...
I GET TO DO ____________ (fill in the blank.)
Have a great week!

In this very first Two Minute Tuesday (I tried, it ended up being a little over three minutes) I talk about the importance of building a "walled garden" around your mind. Find something that allows you to decompress, relieve stress, and find clarity. For me, that "walled garden" is my jiu-jitsu academy. I know, on the surface that sounds ridiculous. What kind of peace and serenity could be found rolling around with other sweaty humans, getting choked and engaging in controlled violence? Surprisingly, a great deal...
For me jiu-jitsu improves my ability to critically think both on and off the mats. It tests my mettle and discipline. It exposes my weaknesses and highlights my strengths. Unlike any other activity I have ever experienced, jiu-jitsu, and the lessons learned on the mats, translate to almost every single area in life.
Do you have to train jiu-jitsu? Of course not. Can your "walled garden" be your favorite hobby, spending time with family, meditation, lifting weights, or going on a Sunday hike? Absolutely. But, this will not be the last time you hear me speak about the benefits of training jiu-jitsu - it has literally changed my life and the lives of countless others who took the brave first step on to the mat.

As we close out National Police Week 2021, let's take a few minutes to show our appreciation for those who serve and have served. Let us remember those who sacrificed their physical bodies through injury, their psychological welfare through continual expose to trauma, and sometimes even their lives to serve all of us.
Let us be grateful - not just in passing thought, but in action. I challenge you to seek out a law enforcement officer and thank them for everything they do - keeping in mind the constant attacks and scrutiny they face by the mainstream media, social media giants, politicians and activist groups.
Police work, despite what you see in the media, is an ever-evolving societal necessity. Nearly all police officers desire MORE training, better equipment, and stronger resources to do their jobs effectively. They are NOT the enemy - they are fallible human beings who are doing the very best they can with what they are given to work with.
