© www.practicus.co.kr Word of the Day – Adamant Transcript Hi everyone. Today's word of the day is adamant. Adamant means to be insistent upon something. It's characterized as being persistent, unyielding, sometimes even stubborn. And we use this to describe a person's actions when they continually do something. One example could be, “The senator adamantly opposed the national bill to cut teachers' salaries. He argued if the bill passed it would deter students from pursuing jobs in education and eventually lead to a decline in quality education.” So in this way, adamant was used as an adverb: adamantly opposed. Another way you can use adamant in a less serious way is in this way, “The little boy was adamant about getting a robot for Christmas leaving pictures of robots all over the house so that his mom would be sure to take the hint.” In this way, the word adamant means determined, stubborn, and there's a tad bit of annoyance. So, he's so adamant, he's so stubborn, that he leaves pictures all over the house and in this sentence it could mean or signify that he's creating a bit of annoyance for this mother. Thank you for listening for today's word of the day. I hope you can use adamant in your everyday lives. You can see the script is at Practicus.co.kr. Have a good day.
