Mother:  
 A young boy kills and is treated in a mental hospital for a year, with no diagnosis, then released back to his loving family who never talk of it again..  

He goes on to marry and live a seemingly normal life for almost 30 years, until he kills his wife and his niece.  He is then linked to 26 other murders.  

His first victim was his mother.

Truthfully I place a significant portion of the blame the father, he uprooted his remaining family that was already a victim in the initial attack and then refused to help the authorities. Oh and 'accidentally' shot the dog?!
