So you want to use the Enneagram effectively.

If you’re going to use the Enneagram as a tool, you need to make sure you’re typed properly. Especially if you don’t remember a lot, have blocked it out, or answer assessments based on behavior, it can be difficult to know and discover your type.

The self discovery process is not for the weak of heart.

Self discovery takes a level of radical honesty without too much emotional charge. Therefore, if you really want to use the Enneagram in your life—for leadership, love, family, health, or relationships—you need help with unpacking your past.

What do you do if you are more than one type on the Enneagram?

The first time I was discovering the Enneagram in rehab, my therapist thought that I could be one of three different types. If you looked at all of my behaviors, I’d probably be pegged as a different type. But to really discover which one fits you, you have to be radically honest with yourself when taking assessments.

Most people would think I’m a 3.

I’m a doer, which is why most people would peg me for a 3. But it’s important to remember that our type isn’t about what we do but why we do it. That’s why the Enneagram makes for a great tool, because if we don’t get to the root of why we do things, then all the changes we make are just temporary fixes, making sustainability next to zero!
