This is a special tribute to One FM founding member and life member Trish Britten from Jason Welsh.
Included in this broadcast is two test transmissions with Trish Britten from 1982 and an interview with Trish conducted by Diane Hunter and John Harbord for One FM's 25th Anniversary in 2014.
Trish was the founding member of Goulburn Valley Community Radio.
Trish called a public meeting to gauge local interest in forming a community radio station back in 1981.
The meeting was held in a conference room at the Mooroopna Hospital. The meeting was well attended.
Trish wanted an education station to be
attached to TAFE and PACE. Trish was a teacher at PACE.
Paul Waters (Life Member) and Alan Tattersall (Life Member) convinced her to apply for a full Community license instead of a limited E radio license.
It took 8 years and a lot of work by a small group of people to finally see that community FM license granted by the then Broadcast Tribunal.
Trish was President at the time of the license being granted, and along with local member Bruce Lloyd, on April 2nd 1989 opened the station under the call sign “3 One Fm” to full time broadcasting.
That transmission continues today.
Trish went on to serve as President for a number of years.
Trish was also a regular Broadcaster.
Trish was awarded an OAM for her services to the community.
Trish retired back to her home town Coleraine in the Western District where she would be closer to her family.
Trish, 81, passed away peacefully on the 15th of April.
Vale, Trish Britten OAM.
This tribute first aired on Friday the 24th of April 2020 on ONE FM 98.5 Shepparton.
