  • How We Studied for the Exam

On today's episode, I have actual guests who are newly-minted BCBAs (and my favorite BCBAs ever). We discuss how we each studied for the BCBA exam. Listen in for our processes, hilarious banter (not), and to hear Dr. Samudre (aka Dr. Dre) give some sound advice on how to approach ethical dilemmas.

Featured on today's episode: Elena Hitch, M.S., BCBA, LBA; Devin Graley, M.S., BCBA; and Mark Samudre, Ph.D., BCBA.

  • Systematically Arrange Independent Variables (B-03)

In the first episode of really and truly talking about experimental design, I talk about the Fourth Edition Task List item B-03: Systematically arrange independent variables to demonstrate their effects on dependent variables. More specifically, I get into extraneous and confounding variables, plus threats to internal validity (#FUNAF).

  • How to Review an Article (B-02)

Ya'll... It's a boring episode. I actually had fun reviewing this article, because I'm an ABA nerd - or a bad ass nerd if that exists. This episode covers the Fourth Edition Task List B-02: Review and interpret articles from the behavior-analytic literature. Today, we talked about the following article:

Carr, E. G. & Durand, V. M. (1985). Reducing behavior problems through functional communication training. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 18(2), 111-126.

  • GET A CAB (B-01 - Dimensions of ABA)

In episode 8, we're kicking off Section B: Experimental Design. I talk about the Fourth Edition Task List Item B-01: Use the dimensions of applied behavior analysis (Baer, Wolf, & Risley, 1968) to evaluate whether interventions are behavior analytic in nature. In this episode, I reference:

Baer, D. M., Wolf, M. W., & Risley, T. R. (1968). Some current dimensions of applied behavior analysis. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1, 91-97.

    Cooper, J. O., Heron, T. E., & Heward, W. L. (2020). Applied behavior analysis (3rd ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall.

If you're looking for additional information on these dimensions, you can find it on pages 16-18 of the Cooper book and you can (and should!) read the seminal article by Baer, Wolf, and Risley (1968). In episode 6, I talk about the Fourth Edition Task List Items A-12, continuous measurement procedures, and A-13, discontinuous measurement procedures. I talk about different time sampling methods and give you what you need to know for the exam!

In this episode, I reference Cooper, J. O., Heron, T. E., & Heward, W. L. (2020). Applied behavior analysis (3rd ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall. If you're looking for additional information on continuous and discontinuous measurement, you can find it on pages 104-105, and you can find more information on time-sampling methods on page 88-93 . In episode 5, I talk about task list items A-10 (design, plot, and interpret data using equal-interval graphs) and A-11 (design, plot, and interpret data using a cumulative record to display data). I love graphs, so I hope you love listening to this episode. In this episode, I reference Cooper, J. O., Heron, T. E., & Heward, W. L. (2020). Applied behavior analysis (3rd ed.).
