If you follow me on social media, you would have seen the cake I made for Olivia’s birthday party. What you see is an ishly-beautiful cake. What you don’t see is the chaos that ensues when baking these gifts for our children. Let’s be clear. I am not the cupcake baking mom. I will do them on occasion, but it is not something I pride myself in doing, love, or really enjoy. I baked this cake and cupcakes out of love to make her feel special, but I was NOT expecting to make a 4 layer rainbow cake with 4 different colors of rainbow frosting on the cupcakes—the sh*t we do for our kids sometimes.

After reflecting on what could be considered an absolute sh*t show of a baking experience, I realized there were so many beautiful aspects of the process I needed to take into consideration. I took this experience and shared with you the 4 life lessons I was reminded of in baking Olivia’s birthday cake. Consider it life lessons from a perfectly imperfect mom: in-process. Yours truly. 

1. Don’t ask a question you don’t want the answer to
2. Just because you aren’t great at something doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it
3. Create realistic expectations for yourself
4. There is beauty in the struggle
