A Boat of Joy in a Sea of Sorrow – The Pursuit of Happiness Part 2
My grandmother used to talk about things happening in “fits and starts”. I’m not sure the actual word selection is ideal, but I know what it means. It means “not smoothly or continuously”. In this case, it applies to the access to our new venue. If you were able to join us when we gathered last week, you would have heard me mention that our new home is available for us every Sunday with the exception of the third week of each month. In September, that’s this Sunday – the 18th. I’ll give you a full schedule from now until Spring later in the blurb, but what you need to know today is that this Sunday we’re meeting online. Next Sunday we’re back to meeting in person.
For now, our plan is to meet in person at the Rainbow Resource Centre (170 Scott Street) every Sunday except the following: October 16th, November 20th, December 18th (some other schedule adjustments are likely in December), January 15th, February 19th, March 19th, April 16th, May 21st and June 18th. You get the picture – the third Sunday of every month. There’s a chance those Sundays might become available to us going forward; we’ll be sure to let you know ASAP if that happens. On the above dates, we’ll meet online. We know how to do that.
Our online gatherings and the livestream of our in person gatherings will take place here.
Some other details:
-Start time will be the same in person and online: 10:45 a.m.
-End time will continue to be around noon.
-Venue access: just a reminder to use the side door, not either of the main doors. We’ll put out some of our signage, so if you come to a door and it’s locked and there’s no sign, you’re at the wrong portal
-Kids Table: we need to rebuild this team! As of this writing, we’ve got a team of one. Amy has committed to one Sunday per month. Thanks Amy! Since one Sunday each month is online, that means we need at least two more folks willing to offer something for our Littles once a month. If that’s you, be in touch by replying to this email. The kids space at this place is pretty fantastic; now we need to fill it with kids and caring adults.
And a brief word regarding the Talky Bit – As I mentioned last week, my desire is to offer a nuanced take on the pursuit of happiness. That means not dodging the sometimes difficult questions about the relationship between happiness and sadness, joy and sorrow. This week we’ll explore a couple of different metaphors that access that space, in the interest of moving from objections to the whole project (which we explored last week – you can find that podcast here) and into some consideration of what it might look like to actually take up the challenge.
I’ll see you online and Sunday, and in person a week after that! So excited…:)
