Review
I really loved the whole story and the characters. It was an easy story to read and the characters seemed interesting.
Four Stars
Very enjoyable book.
Satisfying Holiday Romance
Kimberly Rose Johnson gives us a very satisfying holiday romance in A Christmas Homecoming. Bailey Calderwood is a personal assistant to interior design guru, Mona. Mona defines personal assistant as "slave to my every beck and call."
When Mona's hunky son, Stephen Belafonte, is called home to deal with her health issues, he objects to his mother's callous treatment of Bailey. As he observes Bailey's skills on the job and humility in service, Stephen is drawn to Bailey. However, Mona wants Bailey fired.
I liked the gradual building of the relationship between Stephen and Bailey. The descriptions of their times together conjured pictures of very cozy, romantic, yet clean scenes.
There were a few other conflicts in the story involving other characters that had to be solved for the resolution .This made the story fuller and added depth.
We see characters from the first Sun River novel, and, I suspect, the third, as well. Sun River is beginning to sound more and more like a vacation destination.
I gratefully received an ARC e-copy of the book from the author and publisher.
Will this Christmas be Different
A Christmas Homecoming finds us once again in Sunriver, Oregon. I love this town. The small hometown feel makes for a great setting for the story. It is Christmas time and two people are lonely and lost. Will they be able to find comfort with each other or will this Christmas be lost?
Bailey Calderwood, who was introduced in Book 1, has taken on not only running the interior design business but caregiver for Mona Belafonte, her boss. When Mona's attitude for Bailey suddenly becomes as frosty as it is outside, Bailey wonders what she has done. Meanwhile, a secret admirer is sending gifts. Who could be this mysterious person?
Stephen Belafonte returns from France after Mona suffers a debilitating stroke. When he sees how his mother treats her assistant with such distain, he wonders why. The final straw is when she demands that Stephen fire Bailey. Should he follow his mother's orders or should he do what is the best for the company? And why is his brother suddenly acting so strange? Still reeling from his own loss, will he heal his heart in time? Will he advert the rift between his mother and Bailey?
I love how the characters in this book are so real and open. The reader really does come to know them and feel for them.
