When a property owner receives a notice from the city—such as a weed notice, unsightly premises notice, or cleanup order—it is typically registered against the property, not the individual. This means the notice stays with the property, even if ownership changes.

 

If the property is sold before the issue is resolved, the new owner becomes responsible for complying with the notice and any associated costs. It's important for a buyers REALTOR to review municipal compliance during due diligence, as unresolved city notices can result in enforcement actions or added costs after possession.
