When we were last together, the Philistines were gathering in the Valley of Elah at the Ephes-dammim, the boundary of blood. And they were preparing to go to war; however, one thing stopped them from invading the land of Israel: the legend of Israel’s God, Yahweh.
They send out their champion Goliath, and he cursed the name of Yahweh for 40 days testing the ground to see if Yahweh was present. But while the Philistines were afraid of Yahweh, King Saul and his army were afraid of the Philistines. King Saul, the supposed champion of Israel and Goliath’s equal, did not silence this champion from Gath for cursing the one true God, instead he was hiding in his tent.
But Yahweh was on that battlefield and he would not allow those curses to go unanswered or unpunished. Yahweh’s true champion was making his way to the battlefield…And this challenge by Goliath introduces the opportunity for Yahweh to be glorified and David to rise as the new champion and future king of Israel…
1 Samuel 17:12-37
