In this heartfelt lunchtime talk at the Awaken to Love Center in Spain, Barret De La Luz invites a deep investigation into where we are upholding images or self-concepts instead of following inner guidance. He shares a personal story of ignoring a clear inner prompt, so he could keep a long-standing social commitment, only to come to see how that decision was made by an attachment to being “the nice guy,” and not true inspiration. This leads to him sharing a powerful metaphor: how so many of us are unknowingly propping up a self-concept, like a crumbling wall supported by hidden scaffolding. 

These mental props—the “shoulds,” beliefs about who we think we need to be—require constant effort to maintain and create inner tension and exhaustion. When we can identify these supports and let them fall, it brings great relief and clarity. The process of dropping the mask can feel unsettling, but it's deeply liberating. The walls we thought were protecting us were actually keeping us confined.
He compares this internal effort to a sitcom set, with makeup, lighting, and scripted lines all designed to project a pleasing illusion. But behind the scenes, there is pain, rejection, and loneliness that often go unseen. He calls us to recognize our own "little shows," the personas we maintain to appear acceptable or worthy.

Barret also shares about the movie The Truman Show, to underscore the illusion of the roles we perform. Like Truman, many of us begin to notice cracks in the set—moments when the mask slips, or the “TV show” version of our life no longer holds. Just as Truman had to walk off the stage of a world that was never real, we too are invited to “fire the director,” drop the scripted lines, and step into our authentic Self. Behind the bright lighting and the laugh tracks of our polished personas lies a rawness we’ve been taught to hide. But Barret reminds us that we don’t come to spiritual community to “keep it together”—we come to fall apart, to let the false self unravel, and to trust that what’s real doesn’t need propping up.

In this ACIM satsang Jenny Maria De La Luz explores in depth A Course in Miracles Lesson 152: The power of decision is my own.

In the beginning of the Satsang, Jenny Maria reads the line “To you who are in time a little while, prayer takes the form that best will suit your need. You have but one” from the Song of Prayer (S-1.in.21) Jesus assures us that though prayer may seem to take many forms, it always points to the same answer: our one true need is oneness with God. Jenny Maria reflects on how we often pray for specific outcomes, yet beneath every request is the longing to remember our Self in God.

Jenny Maria talks about the line from Lesson 152, “Truth cannot have an opposite.” She reflects on how often we say "only God is real, or "only truth exists", while still sharing our stories of pain and conflict—as if both truth and illusion can coexist. But the Course is uncompromising here: “If what is not true is true as well as what is true, then part of truth is false.” Jenny Maria emphasizes that this is where deep honesty is needed. We cannot hold onto the belief in suffering and still claim the peace of God.

This part of the lesson invites us into radical simplicity. There are only two categories: what is real (eternal, changeless) and what is not. Emotions, stories, judgments, the entire world of form—these belong to the unreal. Jenny Maria encourages us not to fear this truth, but to welcome it. For only in letting go of illusions can we know what is true.

The satsang ends with a beautiful story of reconciliation, as one participant shares how a moment of willingness to follow guidance led to a miraculous connection and healing with a family member. The session ends with laughter, gratitude, and a reminder that healing is not meant to be heavy—it is the return to what is real, through gentle surrender and sincere devotion.

This powerful teaching lies at the heart of A Course in Miracles. Throughout this ACIM Satsang, Barret De La Luz invites us to consider that every single person we encounter—is offering us salvation, because each one reflects back the thoughts and choices in our own mind.

This is not just poetic metaphor—Barret emphasises that this is actually the pathway to remembering who you are. You don’t need to search for your savior. He is everywhere!

In the beginning of the session, Barret invites us to look honestly at the attack thoughts we still hold in the mind. He explains how these thoughts distort perception, making Christ—and God Himself—seem like our enemies. The teaching calls us to face these patterns not by suppressing or bypassing them, but by allowing them to rise into awareness with the help of the Holy Spirit.

In this session, Barret also references the relationship between Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford—the scribes of A Course in Miracles—as a pivotal example of how transformation begins with a sincere recognition that things must change. This recognition is the essential first step. Without it, there’s no true openness. It’s not about having all the answers—just being willing to say, “I don’t want this anymore. I want something better.”

Towards the end of the Satsang we are reminded that Jesus is always there for us. Barret says “You may have forgotten to take His hand, hundreds, maybe thousands of times, but now is a new moment. Now I can choose to do it”.

This captures the devotion and love Jesus has for us—no matter how many times we forget or wander from our path, Jesus is always there, waiting patiently for us to turn to Him once again.
