Educational technology, or EdTech, is present in all aspects of a teacher's work: from lesson material and delivery, to planning, to communication with students, parents, and staff. In many ways, new technology can enhance learning and streamline many aspects of the job. After all, EdTech is intended to address the question of how to solve issues in education through technology. That said, EdTech can also represent an increased cognitive load on teachers and students, who must learn digital organizational strategies and constantly familiarize themselves with new platforms.
In this episode of Talking TESL, we are joined by Dr. Mike Barcomb, who is the Educational Technologist at Concordia University's Centre for Teaching and Learning. Dr. Barcomb advises educators on how to best apply EdTech to their teaching practice. He joins us today to discuss EdTech: when does it enhance or detract from learning, the ethics of using certain platforms, and where he sees the field moving in the future.
