Immediately following Peter's revelation that Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus is quick to ensure that we understand that Messiah means sacrifice, death but resurrection for him but that extends to his followers too. In this passage Jesus wants us to understand that following him has an inevitable cost towards following him, but don't shy away from it, Jesus is so worth it, just as he was raised to glory so will we.
