The Lalenko Files - 2

This photo was taken the first day that I met Anatoly Lalenko. The year was 2003, and we are gathered in the basement of a church in Zaparozhoe, Ukraine. All of these dear men could have their own “files” written about them, and ten of them became supported through Gospelink. Anatoly sits on the right side of the table. He is second from the edge with both hands on the table.

Beauty and Danger

Simon Mpongwe - Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe borders Victoria Falls, a place of great beauty. . . and danger.

I met this guard in the city of Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe.

He was friendly and glad to have his photo taken, which I did because he was GUARDING A CHURCH BUILDING!

Another photo I took in Harare. If I remember correctly, this was also at a church.

Simon Mpongwe, supported through Gospelink, baptized a new convert in Zimbabwe in a home made baptismal!

Dean Kershner eats an orange with two Gospelink preachers. Simon Mpongwe is seated in the middle. Gospelink is committed to interacting with the national preachers on an annual basis to keep accountability high and to encourage them to be faithful. We are linked together through the love and “sonship” of our Father and Savior. We are together in the work of the gospel.

Prayer and Provision

Without God’s direction in prayer, this baptism would never have taken place. Without God’s provision these children would never have been rescued.

Pamphero was one of the first orphan children to come and live at Harvest Hope Home in Malawi. His name is “Prayer” in the Chichewa language. Who named their son “Prayer” before dying?

Too many people have interpreted “Blessings” from the Lord as material gain and earthly comfort. Our Father in heaven desires us to enjoy the blessings of a spirit filled life: JOY - RELATIONSHIPS - LAUGHTER - PEACE - LOVE - CLEAR CONSCIENCE - FRIENDS - WORSHIP - PURPOSE. . . The list goes on and can be read in the New Testament Scriptures. These are provided by the Holy One.

Rising Interest in Nepal

Buddy McLean - Nepal

This is a photo of a village in Nepal — a village where foreign missionaries will most likely never reside— a village that must be reached with the gospel by national preachers.

To the left of this photo, Buddy McLean’s right hand can be seen as he talks to two godly men in Nepal. (One is not in the photo.) Gospelink is committed to accountability and personal involvement with our national preachers.

This is Magwen, whom you heard about in the episode. Her leg was healed this year, and she has turned away from Hinduism this year and believes in Jesus as her savior, for so He is!

Magwen is of course an alias, and her face is blurred to protect her identity presence online.

The Trip that Changed my Life

In 1992 the majority of Russians were open to hear about spiritual things. They knew they had been deceived, and they had a hunger to hear truth.

“My dear Dean, Thank you so much for showing me a way to God. I have been a great Communist sinner, but now I have found peace for my soul. I will spend the rest of my life teaching young people and my grandson about this God.”

This photo was taken at a second return to Albert’s school. This time we knew how welcome we were!

Ya Wa Hoo

Pastor Hoo -- A closed country

On the right, Mr. Hung Wo kneels and receives the gift of salvation after three years of listening and watching the people who professed there was a God. Mr. Wo says that he saw God living in the lives of the church people, and despite being involved most of his life in politics, he is now seeking the Lord!

Pastor Hoo prays with Mrs. Shoo Hong as told in the podcast episode. During the Covid quarantine Pastor Hoo and the church brought this family groceries. It opened a door to share the gospel.

This story was not recorded in the episode. Pastor Hoo prays on the right with a man we shall call Mr. Soh. He is an unbeliever, but he became unemployed and he and his wife had to move in with his in-laws in a very small room. His in-laws go to Pastor Hoo’s church, and they introduced Mr. Soh to this national preacher.

Mr. Soh also testified that it was the actions and words of the Christians that changed his mind about a living and a saving God. This photo was taken when he prayed for salvation.

Try to imagine this church filled with believers who love Jesus, despite the threat of persecution.

Many Cultures - 1 Savior

Damiani Mongo- Tanzania

This is Pastor Damiani Mongo and his family, posing for a photo with Gospelink field director, Willie Hunter.

The suit and the tie shows that Pastor Mongo identifies more with a Christian culture than with a historic tradition of superstition and spirit worship. God’s Word is good for any culture!

One of the churches planted by Damiani Mongo in a rural are of the Masai people.

Damiani Mongo does not dress in the traditional style, but he speaks their language and knows their culture and customs. He is a natural evangelist and church planter in this part of Tanzania.

God has blessed this national preacher’s efforts in Kipengele school! May the Lord’s Word reach many of these young people!

The Woodcutter

Yun Meak - Cambodia

Pastor Yun Meak, his wife, and his two daughters. Behind them is their house - a simple abode, culturally off the ground, but sufficient.

Yun Meak lives in an area where people make a living gathering and selling firewood. It’s a skill with which he was able to feed his family!

This is one of the churches that Yun Meak pastors in Cambodia.

Yun Meak has opportunities in Cambodia to visit schools and teach God’s Word!

These three new converts publicly demonstrated their faith by being baptised.

This was taken at an outreach where clothing was being distributed to needy people.

And finally, yes, photos that are enshrined in Dean Kershner’s hall of shame!
