In Proverbs 8:13, we read, “To fear the Lord is to hate evil: I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.” This is just one of many places in Scripture where God makes it clear what He thinks of pride. Last time we completed John’s look at the Lord’s letter to Smyrna, in Revelation chapter two. It was a letter of encouragement and praise. Today, as we begin a study of the letter to Pergamum, we see a very different tone from the Lord. Pergamum had fallen into the hands of false teaching. They were compromising. The Lord’s response? Repent!
