Next time you’re in a funk, perhaps take a look at what you’ve eaten that day, week or month. Yes, it’s really that simple: what you eat triggers certain areas of your brain which in turn affects your mood. It’s a burgeoning area of research called nutritional psychology, with studies linking certain ways of eating (hello Med diet) to increased wellbeing. Susie Burrell is one of Australia’s leading dietitians and holds a masters degree in Coaching Psychology so she’s got a unique background in both nutrition and psychology. She’s the resident dietitian on Sunrise, columnist for the Daily Telegraph has twin boys and has just teamed up with Lean Cuisine to develop its new range. In this episode, she discusses the food and mood connection, what to eat for a better mood, and how she navigates her weekly eating plan (fyi: she eats out three nights a week!).
