Fire brings both destruction and protection. In the light of the recent Black Summer of bushfire that devastated parts of Australia there are questions whether we need more back burning - or a different approach.
Dr Phil Zylstra, a research fellow from the University of Wollongong, is an expert in fire behaviour. He examines ways to work with natural landscape and vegetation defences against fire. Phil has spent many years examining the efficiency and role of using fire to prevent and slow bushfires.
