Christmas.  Jesus.  A message.  God Speaking.  A Word.  Jesus.  A baby.  A manger. Plain.  Profound.  What do you do with that?  I mean – do you let it change things?!  Or not…

Christmas – God becomes a man.  Jesus.  Kind of like a message in a bottle. You find the bottle, pick it up, pull out the cork….you’re about to pull out the message.  I wonder what it says….

You spot a bottle on the beach.  You get close, pick it up…..there’s a message inside.  The cork looks really old.  Question – what do you do, toss, it back, leave it for someone else, or open it.

You’re walking along the beach...you see a bottle lying there.  An old bottle.  Glass – there’s a message inside.  So –what do you do, pick it up, or walk on by?

There’s an old Song by Sting called “Message in a Bottle”.  Maybe that’s what Christmas is – a message in a bottle.  But who’s it for?  Me? …….no, surely not!

One of the most wonderful things about being filled with the Spirit of God, is the deep knowledge that we are, in fact, children of God.  Part of His family – and in fact joint heirs with Christ.  God is our … Dad.  That’s powerful stuff.  It gives us a new here and now.  It gives us a new eternity.

Each person who believes in Jesus has a battle going on inside.  Between the desires of the flesh, and the work of the Holy Spirit.  Each one.  Sometimes we feel as though it’s a battle we’re losing, even though we’ve already won.  How can we actually win the battle?  How can we walk in in the Spirit?

Sometimes what we need from God is some practical guidance.  There’s a fork in the road – do I go right, or do I go left.  Of course the first place to look is in God’s Word.  That’s the absolute authority.  Absolutely.  But you know God is a creative communicator.  Sometimes he speaks to us in ways we don’t expect.

When God first poured His Holy Spirit out on the believers on that day of Pentecost, it was one spectacular outpouring.  Question is – does He still do that today?  How do we know if we’re filled with the Spirit?  There are so many different views – question is “What’s God’s plan?”

One of the things that I’ve noticed is that I don’t have the strength, or the power in my own right to live the life that God wants me to.  Have you noticed that too?  We try … and we fail.  What we need, is power.  Power from high.  Fortunately that’s exactly what Jesus has in mind.
