This is a super fun and sporty episode with Jasmine Titmuss. She was breaking gender barriers from a young age, playing cricket at school (where she received a scholarship for sport and music) and in the community before many girls were doing so. She went on to play cricket professionally for England, before moving to Hong Kong to be Women’s head coach at the Hong Kong Cricket Club.
She strongly believes in the power of sport to bring people together and drive change in the community. She is currently the Ballgames Manager for Gay Games Hong Kong 2022 and was the first ambassador for PrideSports in 2015, after its launch in the UK in 2006. She has also been part of running baseball teams for Helpers and domestic workers and advocated for access and equality in cricket in Hong Kong.
Jasmine joined Credit Suisse in February 2020, helping them to find talent across APAC. In addition she is the Co-Chair of the HK LGBT+ Open Network and a dedicated advocate for LGBT+ inclusion. She recently won the LGBT+ Inclusion Champion Award 2021 as part of the Hong Kong LGBT+ Inclusion Awards run by Community Business.
On top of all that she has some of the best stories that I know you are going to love

Born in India, and raised in Saudi Arabia, Anat Deracine (dera-seen) is fascinated by cultural narratives around equality and the portrayal of women. Raised by liberal parents, Anat was allowed to dress as a boy so that she could do sports and take part in other activities that girls were not permitted to.
Anat and her family moved to Canada, and then to the USA when Anat was a teenager. These multi-national experiences fed her interest in politics and philosophy. She has two degrees which she studied concurrently – one in philosophy and one in computer science. This dual talent for creativity and technology has continued through her life: Anat joined one of Silicon Valley’s major tech companies after university and worked her way into a senior role. As such, she is active in driving diversity in the tech sector – both for those who work in it, and for the masses who use it.
Writing under a pen name she is the author of the novel Driving by Starlight, about a girl growing up in Saudi Arabia; co-creator of an online comic called The Night Wolves; and author of many short stories, including The Divine Comedy of the Tech Sisterhood about inequalities in technology.

Today’s episode is with Devon Michelle. She is one fabulous black woman. She has so much drive and energy and I LOVED learning her story.
She’s a single mum, advocate for the underrepresented and through a non-traditional unplanned career path found a role that feels fulfills her purpose. She leads diversity and inclusion for a large multinational with responsibility for Canada, USA and South America and is nailing it!
If you are wanting to learn from people who have built their career in diversity and inclusion Devon's path is a great example.
We talked about the challenges of this career choice including how you have no control, how diversity means different things across the world and how to be the effective when you are driving work across a large region. We also talked about how progress can be slow and the work can be lonely, but engaging with people across the organisation is key.
She is also FUNNY and clever and a complete live wire. She has over 40,000 followers on TikTok (because she is funny and clever). She also has a banging instagram where she calls herself the Olivia Pope of HR (I would agree). Her DP square instragam page is great too.
Have a listen. Check out her social media.

Living in Shanghai, Ivy Wong is an Ally to the LGBTIQ+ plus community in Asia, particularly in Hong Kong and China where significant barries still exist. Through a chance internship with an LGBITQ+ community organistion while studying psychology, she found her purpose and passion and has worked tirelessly in this space ever since.
I often get asked how people can move their career to work in diversity and inclusion. Ivy’s story is one way you can do this.
My key takeaways from speaking with Ivy, are:

This week on the podcast I am joined by Dr Latha Poonamallee . She is an Associate Professor, Chair of the Faculty of Management and University Fellow at The New School, tech founder and diversity equity and incusion expert. Her research, teaching, and practice have been singularly focused on creating radical change to build a more just world.
Expansive Leadership: Cultivating Mindfulness to Lead Self and Others in a Changing World: A 28 Day Program (Routledge, May 2021) is Latha's new book that disproves and dismantles the old, white ways of leadership, reimagining it as an inclusive lever that serves organizations better.
But it wouldn’t be A Dog Called diversity if we didn’t start with a more personal story about Latha’s upbringing, her move the to US to study and her decision to have a baby alone, complete with all the challenges this brings in a conservative Indian family. These experiences inform her purpose and her work.

Jacqui Simpson and I met many years ago in Sydney when we both worked for the P&O Group. I knew we were going to be firm friends when we were on a business trip in London together. One of us was having a very bad day and so we snuck out of our office on Pall Mall and headed to Fortnum & Mason for champagne and afternoon tea. Any problem can be fixed over bubbles (right?) and anyone willing to be a partner in crime when things are tough will always be in my life.
Over Jacqui’s career she has been a key member of executive teams managing businesses through structural change, intense competition, regulatory reform and diverse economic conditions. She has worked across diverse geographies and industries including shipping and logistics, stevedoring, facilities management, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, professional services, telecommunications, healthcare, manufacturing and retail.
Jacqui recently expanded her skill set by undertaking a Masters of Technological Futures, building a whole toolbox of new capabilities in emerging technologies and the digital economy. Her consultancy, Capable Cultures continues to deliver leadership development and capability building initiatives with great clients. Her superpower is in bringing research validated approaches to life through the power of storytelling from her own lived experience.
A dog called diversity is always about people’s stories and experiences and we start with Jacquis first impressions of women in the workplace and a great story about her grandmother. Then we get real about:

Doni Aldine and I recorded this episode when she had just returned to her home in Denver Colarado from what she called “Adult Summer Camp”, in Peru and Chile. Basically a working holiday. I was in Singapore during “heighted restrictions” when we were only allowed to be out with or have 2 people over for dinner. It’s fair to say I was a little envious of her getting to travel.
Doni, is the CEO & Founder of Culturs Global a Multi-Cultural, Philanthropic, Lifestyle Media Company. Doni’s business Culturs celebrates cross-cultural and intersectional identity and focuses on 21st Century Diversity, She has consulted on multiculturalism and diversity for companies like Coca-Cola, Warner Bros, and Turner Network Television and has presented around the globe as a Keynote, at conferences, universities & in media. She is also on faculty at Colorado State University.
We talked a lot about culture and specifically about her experiences being a third culture kid and the lessons learned traveling the globe!
I had heard the term Third Culture Kids, because my kids are ones. They are being raised in a culture and country different to the ones that my husband and I were raised in,and are being exposed to a greater variety of cultural influences and experiences than if they had grown up in Australia.
What I didn’t know is that there is all sorts of different third culture or cross cultural kids. For example you could be a military brat, or a missionary kid, or a global nomad. Not only has Doni lived many of these but she has studied the advantages and challenges growing up in a global community.
