A fasces, or bundle of sticks bound by twine and axe, is a symbol representing one of two political scenarios: a state having absolute power over the people, or a state using its authority to protect the people. From the US Republic and German Reich to the Roman Empire, each utilized the symbol originally for the latter reason which later evolved into the former reason due to corruption, abuses of power, and the natural descent of good intention into tyranny. When it is passion, emotion, bloodlust, revenge, war, etc., that possess a leader it is obvious the outcome, but the same can be said of the people collectively. Our cornerstone should be the rule of law, the agreement in equal inalienable rights, not parties, narratives, or zealotry. No one group should have special privileges and certainly not at the expense of the other groups or the whole. Fascism is holiness and heroism, or corporatism and a merger of the corporate and political worlds – as is the case for the Military Industrial Complex. Free speech means everyone can speak and anti-war means all wars outside of defending the soil of our states. Why do we have these images of Rome as wicked and anti-religious when the general society was colorblind and accepting of all religions. Why are the images of Nazis burning books, rounding people up, asking for papers, using camps to facilitate immigration, and dismantling the media seen as some horrific thing. What if they were burning pornography, rounding up illegal immigrants, asking for proof of residency, and taking apart a corrupt media? Perhaps once you set these authoritarian standards in place, they are not easily reversed.
