The Book of Job shows us how to live out our faith walk with God regardless of what going on round or to us. It shows that nothing happens to the servants of God without Him knowing, Satan can't do anything without asking for permission from God. I encourage you to read the Book of Job in its entirety. Faith and works are not enemies. True faith and righteous works go hand in hand. They are two parts of God’s work in us. Faith brings a person to salvation, and works bring that person to faithfulness. Faith is the cause, works are the effect.
