Former and now honorary Madisonian, Dr. Alhaji Njai, was in town and came to the WORT studio to talk about the environment, health, health research, education and outreach, climate change and health and the work he is doing in his native Sierra Leone and in Africa and here in the U.S.
He explained One Health and also talked about the open letter he wrote to his president in Sierra Leone which you can read in the Sierra Leone Telegraph here: http://www.thesierraleonetelegraph.com/open-letter-to-president-bio-the-other-epidemics-threatening-our-nations-future/
And here’s an article about another project he’s working on in Sierra Leone with students – with amazing results and implications for epidemiology: http://manoreporters.com/news/health/studies-show-worrying-trend-of-viral-infections-in-sierra-leone/
Since Alhaji’s schedule and bio has gotten so long and complicated and would take too much space here, here’s a link to some of the things he’s been doing: http://provost.ncsu.edu/global-one-health-academy/people/alhaji-u-njai/
And yes, there will be a Science and Leadership Festival, January 14 – 16, 2026 in Kabala, Sierra Leone. Details are emerging on Facebook, www.facebook.com/project1808inc/
