We’d all like the think that we are people of grace and mercy, but often struggle when it comes to forgiving those who have wronged us. Yet, Jesus says, our willingness to forgive is a good indication whether or not we have truly experience God's forgiveness in our own lives.
Honesty, truth and integrity. That is a command of Jesus. It is the normal life of a Christian to live this way. To worship this way. To pray this way. With God, impossible things are made possible. We can do great things because the Holy Spirit is within us. Our prayers avail much when we push aside our doubt and pride and confess our sins so we can worship, live and pray in truth.
Have you ever had something pierce you to the heart? A sad commercial scary diagnosis will often do the trick. Our immediate response is often, "What should we do?" But how often does our sin truly pierce our hearts? Do we consider what we should with our sin? And what if it's not so much about what we do, but what's already been done?
As a church, we are grounded in purpose and focused on mission. What's this mission all about? Join us to hear about the unique mission God has called us to and how you can get involved!
Our purpose is the reason we exist. It's why we're here. It's long-term, and it's BIG. Purpose becomes the driving force that propels us forward as a church and helps ground us in a deep sense of why. It's time to get grounded in purpose.
Remember who God is. He is Love. He gave Himself for you. He is always near. You never have to be afraid. He has created the universe for you and when you confess Him as your savior and Lord, He promises to come for you. He is so much in love with you.
Do you remember the old song from Sunday school, "Jesus Loves the Little Children?" It's true! He saw things in children that too often we miss. In a world full of so much confusion and uncertainty, our kids are in desperate need of a touch from Jesus. Will you bring them?
Retrospect can often help us recognize the unfolding of God’s plan and His use of our actions and the actions of others toward His greater design of growing our faith. Throughout what we perceive as missteps, Scripture tells us that God works out His purpose. And the amazing thing about God’s providence is not only that He always works things out according to His plan, but that He does so both for our sake and for His glory.
Ultimately, the choice between vengeance and mercy is a choice between serving ourselves and serving God. Joseph knew that in taking revenge, he would be acting in his own self-interest. By showing mercy, Joseph submitted his will to God’s interests and the providential unfolding of His plan.
Guilt is such a powerful emotion, many of us struggle to overcome it. Even though God has granted us His forgiveness, the weight of past sins can hinder us from living in the freedom that comes with full recognition of God’s grace.
