In this 81st episode I delve into emotional health and discuss the importance of facing and letting go of our various "demons."
A demon, if taken in a literal sense, can be that thing in your life that is working to hold you back, to cause you harm, or to inflict harm on others. Demons thrive on disharmony, hate, and misery. All too often we allow these demons to persist and control our lives.
This can manifest quite easily into actual physical health issues, but can of course ruin mental health as well. They can hold us back from perusing or succeeding in our chosen careers, engaging in meaningful ways with those around us, and can influence how we see or appreciate the things or people in our lives.
In this episode I discuss these concepts and share a couple of my own demons. I, like you, am a fellow human being. And I, like you, get to experience the whole spread of experiences and emotions that shape who I am and how I see the world. It is of course a work in progress.
I finish with a poem that I wrote after losing a friend to poor communication and misunderstanding. It was clear at one point in the interaction that I was no longer interacting with my friend... But rather, the demon inside with all of the hate, fear, and poison only a demon could possess. But this poem is really about all of us. We all have our demons. And it would benefit any one of us to identify, challenge, and let go of those demons.
