In the beginning, God spoke creation into existence, forming light from darkness, order from chaos. This passage reminds us that God’s saving work often begins with creativity—bringing new life where there was none, forming beauty from brokenness. Even now, God is shaping something new in our lives, calling us to participate in the creative work of renewal.

Help & Sending concludes with purpose: the Great Commission and Pentecost reveal not just that Jesus is trustworthy, but that he empowers us to live with purpose.

Wonder establishes the foundation: it’s okay to ask hard questions about Jesus, just like John the Baptist did. This models intellectual honesty and faith for both children and adults.

Jesus’ commandment to love is the definitive sign of Christian life. As resurrection people, we are called to make love visible and tangible through acts of compassion, forgiveness, and welcome, marking our community as Christ’s disciples.

Thisweek we explored Jesus’s promise of unwavering belonging in John 10:22–30,focusing on the imagery of the Good Shepherd who knows, protects, andcarries us through every season of life. We reflected on how the “motherchurch” nurtures us—feeding, shaping, and sending us out—just as our earthlymothers and graduating students experience transitions. Amid noise, cynicism, andlife’s uncertainties, we’re reminded that nothing can snatch us from theShepherd’s hands, and our calling is to extend that same gentle, reassuringpresence to others.

This sermon paints a moving portrait of Darlene as a woman of quiet faith, enduring strength, and deep intentionality. Her decision in 2017 to plan her memorial service—selecting hymns, scriptures, and readings—became a final act of love and witness to those she cherished. The words from Isaiah 40, chosen by Darlene, reveal the source of her enduring hope: a trust in the everlasting God who renews the strength of the weary. Through age, illness, and the fading of memory, Darlene remained joyful, gracious, and spiritually vibrant—never demanding attention, but always radiating warmth. Her life was a reflection of steadfast faith, embodied not in perfection but in presence. Darlene waited upon the Lord with patient endurance, and now she has mounted up with wings like eagles. Her legacy is not only in what she accomplished but in the way she bore witness to a hope that never faded—a hope now fulfilled in the eternal peace of God.

On the road to Emmaus, disciples discovered Christ’s presence through conversation, hospitality, and breaking bread. Celebrating our 50th anniversary, we recognize Christ's faithful presence in our past, our present, and our hopeful future as a community.
