This is a one-week pause from our study in the gospel of Luke, to focus on Jesus' compassion for people and His awesome power to meet their needs, fulfilling messianic expectations and prophecies of His power.
It's been one of the great joys of my life to preach through the gospel of Luke! This is part 101 in our series in this gospel, called the Know Your Faith Series.
It just so happens that this passage is one of my favorite passages in all of Scripture, for very important reasons. In this teaching, Jesus says something extremely important -- extremely eye-opening -- for all people. Don't miss what He has to say!
It's been the joy of a lifetime to preach through the gospel of Luke! This is part 100 in our series in this gospel, called the Know Your Faith Series. It just so happens to be one of my favorite passages in all of Scripture. More importantly, Jesus says something extremely important -- extremely eye-opening -- for all people. Don't miss what He has to say!
There is an appalling, alarming, and willful ignorance of a major essential of the Christian faith among professing believers in Jesus Christ, and that is concerning the Person of the Holy Spirit -- the Third Person of the Holy Trinity.
Here is a shocking statistic about the Holy Spirit from a recent survey of evangelical Christians in America: 60 percent of the evangelical survey respondents believe that “The Holy Spirit is a force but is not a personal being.” https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2022/september-web-only/state-of-theology-evangelical-heresy-report-ligonier-survey.html
The purpose of this message is to correct that grave error and introduce the wonder of God the Holy Spirit to believers in this Know Your Faith Series in the Gospel of Luke!
What God thinks of us is infinitely more important than what man thinks of us. How is it then that people are more concerned about what others think of them than what God thinks of them? What people think of you when you stand before God on the Day of Judgment will mean nothing! In that day, none of men’s opinions on anything that counters the words of Scripture will matter!
This is the focus of the teaching of Jesus here in Luke 12:8-12.
People become hypocrites because they want to impress people. But if they were more concerned about truly knowing God and pleasing Him, they would be free from hypocrisy. Understand more on this topic as Jesus teaches about what's truly important in life!
An urgent, in-depth study of why Jesus spoke so directly about hypocrisy -- and how we can keep ourselves from falling into it.
It's understandable why many Christians today are crying out for revival. But the Church of Jesus needs something far more important -- and lasting; we need a new Reformation. We need a reformation of careful adherence to the Word of God; we need reverence for Him and for His Word. In fact, the Church in America has strayed badly from Scripture. Jesus has much to say about this, but will we heed His words?
The only way to examine how we're doing in the Christian faith today is to peer intently into God's Word and allow it to be a mirror to us. It shocks me that so many Christian leaders seem to do this, and the result is that the Church of Jesus gets a bad name in some circles. Let's give our full attention to Jesus and His teaching about the grave dangers of the religion of the Pharisees.
One of the worst words to describe anyone in any language is the word “hypocrite.” A hypocrite is someone who wants you to think that person is someone he isn’t. What is a religious hypocrite? Why did Jesus warn His disciples so frequently against hypocrisy? Why did He rebuke the scribes and the Pharisees -- the religious leaders of Israel -- so often for their hypocrisy?
What relevance does this have for us today? Find out as we dig deep into our passage today!
