First he fought for his country. Now he'll fight for her.
Two years after losing her husband in Afghanistan, Carly Lowry has rebuilt her life in Tallgrass, Oklahoma. She has a job she loves teaching third grade and the best friends in the world: Fellow military wives who understand what it means to love a man in uniform. She's comfortable and content...until she meets a ruggedly handsome stranger who rekindles desires Carly isn't quite sure she's ready to feel.
Staff Sergeant Dane Clark wanted to have a loving family, a twenty-year Army stint, and then a low-key civilian career. But the paratrooper's plans were derailed by a mission gone wrong. Struggling to adjust to his new life, he finds comfort in the wide open spaces of Tallgrass--and in the unexpected attention of sweet, lovely Carly. She is the one person who makes him believe life is worth living. But when Carly discovers he's been hiding the real reason he's come to Tallgrass, will Dane be able to convince her he is the hero she needs?

More Than Just A Love Story
Having read virtually everything this talented author has written, I feel confident in recommending this book with five stars and more than just a few tears. Reading one of Marilyn's books is like settling down with a friend for a few hours in an overstuffed chair with a blanket to talk about life and love, and being immersed in a story as if you are truly a character. Having said this, A Hero To Come Home To has that same familiar personality we expect but there is a little something different. Ms. Pappano has an obvious passion for the theme of this new series and that passion is evident in every word. The story has opened my eyes to the plight of the families and those returning from Iraq/Afghanistan and the joys and sorrows awaiting them. Ms. Pappano introduces several couples in this story who I am sure we will see in later books. I also want to see what happens with a particularly nasty 13 year old but that's another story. Carly and Dane are the couple in this first book of the series. They both have heartache and more than just a few secrets or emotions that are held back from the other. Their attempt at a relationship is like wandering through a mine field-literally and figuratively. I welcome seeing the progression of their relationship in future books (with a little consummation, please). Even the dedication of this book gives us thoughts to ponder and a reality to face and to understand. You know it is going to be an emotional journey when the dedication makes you cry. Be sure and read the dedication! The themes in this book are real issues faced by many of us today and give an insight and empathy to those needing our support as they return home to face a new normal. Read this book! It is more than just entertainment.
A Long time Pappano fan
It seems like a long time has passed since I have read a Marilyn Pappano book.
