Colonisation is at its worst when it’s internalised, when it’s your own personal oppression that digs its claws in deep, and makes us view our own people with disdain. We become the thing we are supposed to fight against, it’s when Moko turns to “scribbles” and self hatred rules.

When do we get to be considered “Māori enough” and how do we stop caring about a fictional bar set by a nonexistent judge for a metric that can’t be measured?

When do we get to live our indigenous experience, without having to carry the expectation’s of those who should be amongst the first to support us?

Let’s decolonise our perception of ourselves, let’s stop trying and start being.

A stereotype worth discussing, a real life issue in a spiritual war to fit in with people who don't want you to be unique, when we "fit" it comes at the cost of truly belonging.
