A Lifetime Of Basketball Lessons w/ Gonzaga's Jerry Krause

Listen Later

Episode 027: Jerry Krause is the retired director of basketball operations for Gonzaga University and taught hoops at all levels for over 55 years. The author of over 13 books on coaching basketball and over 30 instructional videos, Krause is the retired chairman of the NABC Research Committee and former chairman of the NCAA Basketball Rules Committee.

In 1998, Krause received the prestigious NABC Cliff Wells Appreciation Award for his lifetime contributions to basketball. He was inducted into the NAIA Basketball Hall of Fame in March 2002. He is a member of the National Association for Sports and Physical Education and is in their hall of fame as both a coach and a physical educator.

I was lucky enough to be coached by Jerry Krause during my senior year at Gonzaga.  He is a coach of significance, teaching life and basketball lessons that transcend the game.  We sat down and I got to pick his brain on...

  • Why he believes "we learn to live well by living to learn"
  • How to be a coach of significance
  • What Mark Few & Lisa Fortier do better than most coaches
  • The most important basketball lessons he's learned in 55 years of coaching
