With her short-story collection Sinkhole, and Other Inexplicable Voids having recently won the 2026 Washington State Book Award for Fiction, Spokane author Leyna Krow is with us this week to discuss her work.

Among other things, we get into the stories behind the stories in Sinkhole as well as the continuities and contrasts between this collection and her 2022 novel Fire Season.

We're on location at the Eastern Washington University Gallery of Art this week to check in with the Pullman-based visual artist Joe Hedges for his current exhibition, titled "Their Own Devices."

The exhibition showcases Hedges' fusion of technology with traditional fine arts.

Joe also takes time to talk about what he's been up to with his bandmates back in Ohio as the alt-rock outfit July for Kings.

"Their Own Devices" runs at the EWU gallery until Nov. 12.

Garrin Hertel, co-founder of the Hot Club of Spokane, joins ALAYT this week to talk about the legacy and appeal of jazz manouche, the Hot Club's many musical faces, and how the local swing dance community keeps the musicians on their toes.

Lilac City Stomp, which features the Hot Club's musicians and Woodside Swing, is an all-day jazz and dance event at the historic Davenport Hotel on Oct. 24, 2026.

And on November 8, the Swingtet of the Hot Club of Spokane will perform with guest accordionist Patricia Bartell at Hamilton Studio.

Joe Henson of Hitchhiker's Theatre, Jess Loomer of Stage Left Theater and Jeffrey St. George of Inland Classical Theatre pile into the Rogue Heart Media studio this week for an episode examining the state of the local theater scene.

From their different viewpoints, they discuss the challenges that theaters—both troupes and venues—are facing, how they're adapting and some positive developments that have emerged in this changing landscape.

Stage Left is about to produce a regional premiere of Andrew Lee Creech's Riverwood from Nov. 6–22.
