Welcome to Stories Come to Life. I am your host, Kathryn Lopez Luker. Today I will be reading the first two chapters of A Little Princess, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. This book was published in 1912, and has become a beloved favorite all over the world. In these chapters we will meet little Sara Crewe, who is seven years old. She and her father have come all the way from India, where Sara has lived most of her life, to England, where she will be going to school at Miss Minchin’s Select Seminary for Young Ladies. Sara and her father, Captain Crewe, don’t want to be separated from each other, but Sara needs to get her education, and her father has to return to India. Sara is a very serious young girl, and very polite. In fact, even from this young age, it seems that she has an air about her of a little princess.
