You have heard many voices in the world around you. The world wants to pull you away from God and tell you that what His word says isn’t true. There’s an easy way to keep from being deceived, though. Live in Him. That’s the secret. Stay attached to Him. John wrote about a metaphor Jesus gave His disciples in his gospel. He told them He was the vine and those that follow Him are the branches. If you do not produce fruit, the Father, the keeper of the vineyard cuts those branches from the vine and burns them in the fire. He prunes the branches to make sure they produce good fruit.

The point is when His followers stay connected to Him, they produce good fruit. They grow and the Father is pleased with them. When not connected with Him, the branches soon wither, die, and are destroyed. So live in Christ. Stay connected. Stay in His word. Pray. Study. Meditate on His word. Listen to Him. Do what He ask. Live in Him.

John witnessed Jesus in the flesh. When he did and discovered what it was like to also have His Spirit live in him, John could not help but tell the story. He wanted the world to know Christ like he came to know Him. John was probably Jesus' closest disciple while the Master walked the earth. John probably understood Jesus love better than any of His other disciples. Yet, until His Spirit came at Pentecost, the love John knew before that day was only a shadow of what was to come.

Do you know what it means to really love God? Peter thought he did. It wasn’t until Pentecost when those 120 devoted themselves to prayer and fasting, seeking for something they had never experienced before. Asking for something they didn’t know or understand. It wasn’t until God returned and lived in them that Peter learned to love with His love. Only then did Peter allow himself to die to all that was Peter and let Him reign in his life and truly love.

What does it take for you to believe? For Thomas, he wanted to see the nail prints in Jesus' hands and the slash of the spear in His side. The other disciples saw Him and described what they experienced when He came to them behind closed doors, but Thomas just couldn’t take it in. He would not let his mind wrap around the idea that Jesus could overcome death even though he saw Him raise others from the dead.

But what about you? Will you need to see Jesus bodily before you believe? I hope not because at His next coming it will be too late. His next coming ushers in the final battle and the resurrection of all His faithful followers. Those left behind will find conditions pretty deplorable. His Spirit will not remain and hopelessness will be the new catch phrase for those who do not go with Him to paradise.

It’s easy to point back to others and point out their faults. But take a look at yourself. Do you let anything get between you and God? Do you spend time talking with Him? Is it your best time or what you have left over? Do you study His word to learn who He is, how He acts, what He says, what He wants you to do or do you just skim through His word as a duty to perform or not read it at all? Do you meditate on what He tells you? Do you listen to His Spirit in you and act on what He commands of you?

It’s still hard for me to believe the religious leaders of Jesus day would abandon their own beliefs to get rid of Him. Of course, He knew it would happen to fulfill scripture, but if anyone would uphold the commandments, you would think the leaders and teachers of those commandments would. But they didn’t. They figured Jesus' death meant their freedom. It would have if they believed in Him because His death is the sacrifice, the penalty paid for the sins of the world for all who believe He is God incarnate come to save people from their sins. For those who do not believe, they will remain chained by their sins and guilt.

Jesus' prayer speaks of the unity between His Father and Him and between His disciples and Him. He also longs for unity between His disciples. The only way that can happen, though, comes from His living in you though His presence in the form of His Spirit in you. You must invite Him into your life. You must turn your life over to Him and do as He asks. You must become a disciple, one who becomes like his or her teacher, if you expect to understand Jesus and His word.

The Adversary does his best to confuse and veil the hearts and minds of people to lure them away from Me. Jesus told His disciples and He tells you that trouble will follow you as long as you live in this world. But like He told them 2000 years ago, don’t despair. He already defeated your Adversary. His judgment is determined. His defeat is complete. He has already overcome this corrupt world order.

As He leaves His Spirit with you to guide you and strengthen you, you will have the ability to stand in the face of your enemy. In the face of trouble, you can remain true to Him. You can face persecution and trouble. Just as He triumphed over the cross and burst from the tomb, He will return to resurrect you and take you to a home He’s been preparing for you since He ascended to heaven so many centuries ago.

Are you producing fruit? Is your character changing to reflect the fruit of the Spirit? Can you take an inventory of your character and see spiritual fruit growing in your life? Do others see a change in you since you accepted Christ as your Savior? If not, something is wrong. It’s time to get into His word and learn what He wants from His followers. It’s time to be more than a hearer of His word and do what He asks of you. It’s time to follow His commands. He doesn’t want you to stay the same as when He found you. Jesus wants you to become like Him. He wants to transform you and make you unlike those in the world.

Anyone who loves Him does what He commands. His peace is the legacy He leaves with you.These three truths can help you live better today if you take them to heart.
