Joe Hesketh, shares his life story, this may very well end up being a two-part episode. This however, will begin our journey with a multi episode series with Mr. and Mrs Hesketh.

He will be celebrating his 89th birthday in July! He is still going strong after being born with severe Asthma, having lobar pneumonia during his first year in school, losing all his hair to Alopecia as a teen, surviving a plane “crash” at age 35, stomach surgery for an ulcer at age 51 then an unexpected quadruple heart bypass surgery 36 years ago at age 53.

He is the father of eight children, five girls and three boys, grandfather of 35, and great grandfather of 37 at last count. (Aria is number 29).

Born and raised in Rhode Island he was the oldest child and was joined by a brother and two sisters during the next ten years.

As a youngster and unable to play sports because of his Asthma, he kept busy with a Paper route, selling “tomorrows fresh bread and rolls” door to door, selling Readers Digest subscriptions door to door, baby sitting, at age 9 he started being a helper on a retail milk truck and that lasted about 6 years. Spent a portion of a summertime helping an uncle build a Bomb Shelter under his home and also working for the Henniker NH Highway department as a helper.

Active at his Church he was appointed to the position of Chief Altar Boy.

Early interest in Fire Fighting he joined the Pawtuxet, RI Volunteer Fire company as a Jr Fireman at age 16, became a driver at 18, appointed a Lieutenant at age 20, the youngest Officer ever.

He is a graduate of Providence College with a BS in Business Management and a Commission as 2nd Lt in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He spent two years on active duty and then five more years in the in the Active Army Reserve.

Joe earned most of his tuition with part time jobs and the ROTC pay).
