Kaya Oakes, Author of Not So Sorry: Abusers, False Apologies, and the Limits of Forgiveness & Senior Lecturer at UC Berkeley
Question of the Week:
We often hear in faith communities about the importance and even the “need” for forgiveness when someone wrongs us. But sometimes it just doesn’t feel like forgiveness may be warranted or deserved, such as in cases of abuse or when someone commits murder or mass evil. Calling for forgiveness can feel like a way to excuse problematic behavior and center the perpetrator rather than the victim. How do we navigate this as people of faith?

Question of the Week:
We hear about how churches have been historically instrumental in grassroots justice efforts through community organizing. But in a more politicized world, it seems churches may be more hesitant to get involved in community organizing. Are there elements of community organizing that churches could learn from? Are there elements of faith values or traditions that could be helpful for community organizers?

Emma Lockridge, Writer & Environmental Justice Activist
Question of the Week:
We hear stories about communities located near major facilities of manufacturing, oil, gas, or petroleum companies are impacted by those facilities in terms of their health and environment. One well known example is communities in “cancer alley” in Louisiana that are severely affected by air pollution from nearby petrochemical plants and refineries. But there are many other examples around the US and the world. How can people of faith support local communities seeking justice for the impacts that corporations have on them?
