  • Season 3 Episode 4 How to Build Global Teams

Season 3 Episode 3 How to Build Global Teams

Welcome to Episode 3 of Season 3! This week, AMSE CEO Moni Jefferson talks to the owners of Wise Advise and Assist Team - Deputy Director Laura Early and Executive Director Diana Jaquith. Wise Advise and Assist Team is a virtual assisting agency powered by military and veteran spouses. The experience and knowledge Diana and Laura bring in this subject are priceless! This episode will not only give you tools you can immediately put to use, but

Here are some other things you’ll hear about on the podcast:

    • The size of your global team doesn’t matter
    • Your techniques and communications within your team are crucial.
    • If you have feedback to give to someone within your team, give it directly to them while you’re dealing with it. Don’t talk about it with others. That’s not going to build a team.
    • Let each other know how you best receive communication. Take the time to learn this about yourself and your team; this will eliminate a breakdown in communication.
    • Be clear and concise in your communication.
    • Being a good communicator isn’t just about speaking; it means you need to be a good listener.
    • You are establishing norms within your team. Not just what’s normal for you, but your collective team.
    • Don’t expect to get right every time. Keep listening and understand where the other person is coming from. Don’t project your communication methods on the other person. Respect who they are and their methods.
    • Your communication will change as your company grows.
    • Communication tools:
      • Slack
      • Project manager software
      • Email software
      • Anything that helps your team collaborate more efficiently and effectively.
    • Know the direction you want your team to go. If you’re going to grow, make sure you choose the right tools around that rather than your immediate needs. Look at the forecast of your business.
    • Be respectful of other's schedules, especially when it’s non-work hours.
    • Trust starts at the top and being vulnerable.
    • Celebrate the behaviors that you want to see again. For example, when a team member does something you, as the leader, didn’t know how to do, celebrate that.

Hello listeners! I’m Caroline Schafer, the Podcast Producer for AMSE.

We have made it halfway through 2021 and guess what? We are only 178 days away from Christmas! Before you yell at me for sharing this information, I just wanted to say that hosting a Christmas in July get-together is not only fun but a nice break from the summer heat. You’ll just have to trust me on this one!

So while you’re busy making your guest list and choosing a date to experience this memorable time, here are some other events to help you celebrate being a military spouse entrepreneur and an AMSE member:

Participants will learn with evidence-based context why negotiation is important, how to do it well, how to better value one's skill sets, and how this might apply to them in difficult situations like layoffs, career path changes, and more.
    • Tuesday, July 13th’s Masterclass called “What’s Next After the YES?” is at 1:30 pm EST and will be taught by our leader, Moni Jefferson. In this class, you’ll learn the next steps and types of partnerships to consider to create powerful partnerships where both parties are happy.
    • If you’ve never attended our monthly Coworking event, Tuesday, July 20th at 1:30 pm EST may be the time for you! Join our AMSE community to brainstorm, share experience and knowledge, and connect in this entrepreneurial life.
    • Have you ever wondered how to tap into the courage within yourself? On Thursday, July 22nd at 1:30 pm EST, Shanita Liu will coach us on “How to Activate Courage.” She leverages her skills as a certified life coach, TEDx speaker, and integrative reiki healer to show people how to tune in and reconnect to their courage, power, and strength so that they can stop sacrificing themselves and start transforming what’s in their hearts into realities.
    • Thursday, July 22nd, has something else to offer you at 7:00 pm EST! I mean, we couldn’t have a month go by without celebrating all you are and all you do with our virtual Happy Hour! So join us as we relax, replenish, revitalize, and regenerate!

  • Season 3 Episode 2: What to consider if you want to be an author

What to consider if you want to be an author

Welcome to Episode 2 of Season 3! This week, AMSE founders Flossie Hall and Moni Jefferson talk to seasoned military spouse and author Megan B. Brown as she shares her knowledge and experience about the process of content creation, publishing, and concept development to becoming an author.

Here are some other things you’ll hear about on the podcast:

    • The difference between a writer and someone who wants to be a writer is 6 hours and 6,000 words.
    • Know what you’re going to write about and why:
      • The places that have caused you the most pain
      • The areas that just peeve you off
    • Remember, writing is a lifetime of cross-country running. It’s a marathon.
    • Anything you want to write about deserves the time, effort, and nurturing - a very straightforward concept.
    • Anything you want to write about should be a lesson twice learned: it’s a lesson you have sat with and learned from, and a lesson that you can teach it to others.
    • Megan says if you don’t have an AMSE membership, get one now! The things I’m telling you to do are in the Membership Toolkit.
    • We don’t write for ourselves; we write as a gift of love to the reader.
    • The most important thing - understand what your reader needs, not what you want.
    • Try to attend writer’s conferences for your own education and exposure.
    • Four things to have on hand at a conference:
      • A well-produced one-sheet
      • A developed concept
      • A polished 30-second elevator pitch
      • A flawless proposal
    • Stay away from absolute truths and blanket statements.
    • Don’t write about what’s popular; write about what you have authority in.
    • Mentoring is one of the greatest gifts you can give in the military spouse community. Unfortunately, our stories are not in the books, and we need to change the narrative.
    • Megan’s new book/bible study is Summoned: Answering a Call to the Impossible.
