  • #63 Femininity, Community and the Path to a Somatically Regulated Revolution with Kylie McBeath

Kylie a Certified Health Coach, Emotional Expert, Co-Founder of Zura Health, Podcast Host, Speaker and Writer. This is Kylie's second time on the show and we dive in real deep, real fast. We talk about our thoughts on the nature of feminine power, the importance of community and interdependence, and what an embodied & intentional path to self-trust and intuition looks like. We also discuss why you can't actually consent to anything if you don't know and trust yourself, the anger and grief-laden process of recognizing you've confused abuse with love, and why we both feel that if there's going to be a revolution, it will be one grounded in self-knowing and regulation.

  • #62 Sexual Perversion and other Socially Constructed Taboos with Jesse Bering

Jesse is is a research psychologist and Director of the Centre for Science Communication at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. He is the author of several books, all of which examine controversial & taboo topics. We talk about the nature of sexual perversion - what it means, how it's defined and why moralistic, socially constructed positions related to behavior of any kind can be extremely problematic. We dive into everything from pedophilia to incest to zoophilia and challenge the "nature" argument as it relates to the construction of sexual orientation. We also discuss how shame and punishment have played a role in human relationships throughout history, how theory of mind can feed into a belief in something greater than ourselves, suicide, narcissism, and how Trump embodies a perfect elixir of both cleverness and psychosis enabling him to capitalize on collective human psychology.

  • #59 The Art of Questioning Everything with Justin De Ruyter

Justin and I look at the world in very similar ways. Maybe it’s because we were both raised by a gay dad, or because we both had to navigate challenging early childhood dynamics, or because we both have Dutch heritage. Either way, for as long as we can both remember, we’ve always approached the world with a great deal of curiosity and skepticism. Justin worked in the fire department for his entire adult life and just recently retired. He shares vulnerably about what his 23 years of experience has taught him about humanity and the systems we depend on. We discuss everything from navigating our sexual identity to processing severe trauma to the crisis of loneliness to the multitude of ways our culture fails the people who need our support the most. Justin is one of the most vulnerable and courageous men I know. I’m honored to be his friend and grateful to help share his story.
