Publisher's Summary:
His fiancée was the one woman he'd loved.
Her children are all he has left.
Reserved contractor Wade Sullivan never expected to fall in love with Starr Parnell or to love her three small kids as if they were his own. But that's exactly what happened. As their wedding draws near, however, tragedy strikes - and Wade must put aside his own grief in order to help Starr's children cope.
As Wade focuses his efforts on caring for the children, he discovers that their tender young lives give tremendous meaning to his own broken one. Then Starr's abusive ex-husband shows up to claim the offspring who barely remember him - and Wade prepares for the fight of his life.
Will anyone believe his claim to love the children more than their father loves them?
A powerful novel of loss and discovery, courage, and grace, A Nest of Sparrows masterfully illustrates one man's struggle to know when to fight, when to let go, and when to simply wait.

Well done, uplifting, ending a tad unbelievable
Story of a man engaged to a lovely woman with 3 kids. She dies in tragic circumstance (no spoiler, this is in most descriptions), the man seeks custody of the young children (I think Beau is supposed to be nine, the oldest). He struggles to provide, many struggles. Their love for one another is heartwarming. There is romance thrown in, but the centerpiece is his overwhelming loyalty to three children not of his blood. I really enjoyed it. It was obviously intended as a heartwarming story. I don't want to reveal the ending but, unlike most of real life, it is a tad unrealistic in the end. I have known, personally, too many stories of real heartbreak (two very close friends, not just distant stories, as well as a few who were personally known to me but not as close).
If I explained more, I feel I'd be spoiling the story. Characters of all, especially the main four, but even side characters and struggles are well fleshed out. One reviewer pointed out that the villain was a little too bad. Not sure I agree but some of his behavior seemed tiny bit stereotyped.
All in all well-written and uplifting.
Beauty for ashes
When the worst happens - that one thing you know you could never get through - and then it happens again - what do you do? What do you think? Do you sink into a despair so deep you never surface again? Do you lose hope in God, or at least the goodness of God? Wade Sullivan faces these questions.
Although the final outcome is never really in question, the twists and turns along the way are as compelling as the joy-filled, loving portrait of family we see in Wade and "his" kids.
