Discussion with Jean Enno Charton, Head of Digital Ethics and BioEthics at Merck in Germany.
Jean, and his team at Merck, were Award winners at the inaugural CDR Awards in Germany at the start of December 2021.
We have previously featured their work through their Digital Ethics Advisory Panel in a blog at the start of 2021, and it was fantastic to discuss both this and their recently published, and open source, Code of Digital Ethics.

We launched the International CDR Manifesto on the 1st October, 2021, as a year long collaborative effort between an international group of established CDR experts, academics, published authors and corporate practitioners. This work built on our own individual work, and recognised some of the other great work in this field over the past three years to bring an open source, Creative Commons framework to the market that enabled organisations to better think about the impact of their use of digital on creating a more positive impact on the planet and society.
This first of a min-series of podcasts, with Tim Frick (CEO Mightybytes in Chicago, a BCorp Design Agency) looks at the new manifesto explores the background to the collaboration, the first two of seven principles, and looks at how CDR is, and may further land in North America.
The team behind the manifesto includes Dr Saskia Dörr, Professor Michael Wade, Tim Frick, Oliver Merx, Christopher Joynson and Rob Price, all of whom have been involved in introducing or regularly discussing definitions of CDR over the past four years.

Discussion with Miranda Sharp, CEO Metis Digital Ltd, and Paul Campion, CEO TRL, both of whom are key figures in the UK National Digital Twin Programme. Whilst introducing the concept of digital twins in regard to built infrastructure, we also particularly consider the relationship between infrastructure and the natural environment and ask how Digital Twins can evolve to enable organisations to model the impact of infrastructure on both of the environment and indeed society as a whole.

In this book, you get exclusive access to the back story of the most extreme Ponzi schemes, the most bizarre hoaxes and brutal exit strategies from some of the biggest charlatans of crypto."

Too many times, especially in the UK, I see a strong focus on Data Ethics or AI Ethics, but its rare that I find a strong voice on Digital Ethics. In that context, I was delighted to recently find the Avanade global report on Digital Ethics, and to track down Chris as the man behind it. I was really looking forward to this conversation and it didn't disappoint. Great to see so many synergies between CDR and the Avanade Digital Ethics framework. As I've said many times, it matters less what we call it and more the actions that we take to drive change.
Chris McClean is the Global Lead for Digital Ethics at Avanade, a leading digital innovator with over 40,000 employees worldwide. Find out more about Avanade’s Digital Ethics practice athttps://aka.avanade.com/ethics and read the Digital Ethics report at https://aka.avanade.com/digitalethicsreport.

I've been looking forward to this conversation for a while, talking about Draft EU AI Regulations with Trish Shaw, CEO Beyond Reach Consulting and Simone Larsson, AI & ML Commercial Lead at the Digital Catapult. Trish recently wrote this article that we published as a review of the EU AI Regs, and brings a legal, regulation and standards perspective to the conversation whilst Simone in her work with AI start ups and scale ups at the Catapult brings excellent insight as to how tech businesses are responding and considering their marketplace in Europe and beyond.
The thought that I expressed at the end is that vast network each has in the world of AI, from all of a tech, policy, regulation, business, market perspective, and I absolutely recommend this as a great listen that will add insight to your own plans in this area.

Delighted to hand across the hosting reins for this episode to Mishal Noor Shahid, who talks about the impact that Inclusive Digital Initiatives can have, brilliantly brought to life in her conversation with Rotimi Soyombo and Roger Percy Lister. I was particular taken by common theme of finding your passion - living your life and earning a living by doing the things that you are most passionate about. I think this is such a key theme linked to CDR, and Defining Purpose.

I have been looking forward to this conversation for some time. Chatting with Robbie Stamp, CEO Bioss International, friend of Douglas Adams and executive producer of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy film. We explore the human response, societal response, to some of the opportunities that AI presents.
Robbie also sits on the British Standard Institute’s National Standing Committee on Artificial Intelligence and is currently working on ISO recommendations on Board Governance and AI.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts , is in attendance at the All Party Parliamentary Group on AI and formally submitted evidence to the Lords Select Committee .
He speaks regularly about the intersection of the Governance of human institutions and complex adaptive systems and contributes where he can to discussions on the ontology of data, its ‘power relationships’ with humans and the nature of human embodiment.
Prior to this, Robbie was Chairman and Chief Executive of The Digital Village, a media company founded with the late Douglas Adams, which pioneered social networks to create content on the internet.
Robbie has given two TEDx talks: at TEDxLondonSalon on digital afterlives, and at TEDxLondon on “How Grief Feels“. As the creator of the Bioss AI Protocol, he has been a regular keynote speaker at the CognitionX AI Conferences, and submitted evidence at the invitation of the UK Parliamentary Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence.
Between 1995 and 2000, Robbie was CEO of h2g2, formerly The Digital Village, the company he co-founded with the late Douglas Adams in 1995.

Fascinating discussion with Niniane Paeffgen, MD Swiss Digital Initiative about their proposed Digital Labelling scheme to give Swiss consumers increased confidence of the way in which organisations will protect and process their personal data. I thought it was particularly interesting that Niniane has so far identified 50 similar initiatives globally (all slightly different) in this embryonic space of increasing consumer confidence and finding solutions to deliver a "Trust Label"
